    Default Triple Play!

The Texas Rangers pulled off the sweetest defensive play I have ever seen. It happened so fast too that the third baseman who pulled it off was the first to realize it.

    I’ll let you YouTube it.

If you’re confused about what happened it’s this. Bases are loaded with no outs. The man at bat hits a line drive towards the third baseman. It looks like the third baseman caught the line drive and everyone acts accordingly. The offensive players return to base to tag up. Big mistake.

But the third baseman didn’t catch the ball. He scooped it off the ground. This means the ball is in play and the offensive players are required to advance. The third baseman then tags third base with his foot for the force out of the man on second at the same time he tags the man who should be running home for the tag out, out number two. The third baseman than throws the ball to second base for the force out at second cause the man on first had not advanced (he thought the line drive had been caught in the air) out three and the side is retired.

What’s unique about this triple play is that the lead runner, the batter, was not thrown out. The last time that happened in MLB was 106 years ago.

The third baseman Profar has to be psyched to have made a hall of fame play. Brooks Robinson would be proud.

I try to explain to my wife why I like to watch baseball so much. You never know when something like this will happen. and I missed it.

We missed this by one day! My wife, son and I drove down to Dallas to watch the Rangers and Angels play on the Friday after this happened. We saw the play on MLB Network the night before and everyone was talking about it when we got there that Friday. We saw a good offensive game ... which is what we were hoping for, with several very good defensive plays sprinkled in. Just missed getting a foul ball.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Reds game. Last time I went the Misses embarrassed me by buying a blue Reds hat cause blue is her favorite color.

Lol... sorry for the embarrassment. Our (my son and me) favorite team is the Cardinals but that’s a 7+ hour drive and tickets are about double in price. It’s just a 3 1/2 hour drive to watch the Rangers so we wait until a team we like comes to town. Two of our favorite players (Puhols and Ohtani) play for the Angels which is why we picked that weekend.

He’s a huge Judge fan so we like to catch it when the Yankees come to Dallas.

Puhols went to the Angels? We're from STL. He was like a GOD in Cardinal Nation.

You’re too soft on the kid. You should disown him and toss him onto the street and strike his name from the family Bible and tell him to never use your family name ever again.

Now don’t get me wrong. I understand there are some things a parent might have to accept. I can understand that you would accept it if he came out as gay, or converted to Islam, or shot a Bald Eagle.

But there are some things a parent should not accept or tolerate from a child, like being a Yankees fan.

Having said that I will speak of this no more as I understand how vast and humiliating your embarrassment must be. I will just pray for you that the boy doesn’t something else just completely beyond the pale of acceptable human behavior, like enrolling at the University of Michigan or rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.

Exactly why we’re big fans of Puhols. Once a Cardinal...

Well, we don't follow sports much. Plus we've been up here for two years.
