The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is once again trying to get the media to stop calling it “Mormon” — and President Russell M. Nelson wants to eliminate the use of “LDS” as well.

When I was 16 yrs old we went on a 3 week trip out West to the national parks, see cool stuff, visit our fam in SoCal, and do the family thing. Mom insisted on a detour to Utah and Salt Lake City. She had some admiration thing about the LDS and especially loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. So we went to their museum and learned about their pretend glorious history and couldn't wait to escape and see some actual real stuff. Well, except for Mom who was thrilled to experience Joseph Smith's faith and bravery in founding an icky little city next to an icky very salty lake in an icky desert because persecution cough cough cough.

Mom's been gone now for 32 years and I still feel her disappointment that I never bought into the whole Xtian cult mythos stuff. Or the persecution shit.

I don't think he's going to be successful. People will call them Mormons because the President of the Church has no hold over the rest of the population.

IIRC they were burned out of St. Louis so it isn't as if they weren't at least heavily harassed for being a cult.

When you allow 14 year olds to teach and 16 year old to be priests with their raging hormones and all, you never know where that lay clergy thing might take you.
