    Default Goodbye Aretha Franklin

When I was 14, I used to deliver the Michigan Chronicle and Jet Magazine to her father's house, Rev. C.L. Franklin. Every time I would deliver the paper, I would hope to get a glimpse of her sister Carolyn .. but she never looked my way. As it turned out, Carolyn had no interest in men. My first heartbreak.

I always looked forward to the holidays and the 20 dollar bill her father would give me as a tip. I liked Rev. Franklin, loved his politics. He was the driving force behind the historic 1963 Detroit March to Freedom, which was the largest civil rights demonstration in history until the March on Washington 3 months later. The NAACP was against the march, but they were ignored.

Aretha herself was indeed the Queen and her amazing voice carried the hopes, spirituality, and aspirations of a generation. She always reminded me of my mother, herself a wonderful singer.

I will miss her, as I will miss a generation of great artists and performances that I have been blessed to know and share their amazing gifts and talent.

Too many to name, but they are almost all gone now. Almost all gone.

When my time comes, I will have no complaints. I have been blessed to have lived what is in my opinion, the greatest generation. A generation of monumental change for African-Americans after being enslaved and oppressed for almost 400 years in the so-called 'land of the free.'

    Godspeed my Queen.
AMERICAN HISTORY ITSELF IS A TESTAMENT TO THE STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE OF AFRICAN PEOPLE. WE, ALONG WITH THE COURGE AND SACRIFICES OF CONSCIOUS WHITE AMERICANS, LIKE VIOLA LIUZZO, EVERETT DIRKSEN, AND MANY OTHERS, HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED TOGETHER FOR OUR FREEDOM, AND FOR OUR SURVIVAL.

This is a time for reflection on the life of a great artist .. don't waste your time on a psychopath.

Rest in Peace Aretha. You've always had my r-e-s-p-e-c-t. You were a happy part of the music of my life.

Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

It actually speaks volumes about your brain capacity that it's just "too much for you" to skip over a thread on a page with close to 30 of 'em, that takes up such limited physical space.

It's not something I can relate to, at all. These are very easy mental gymnastics for me - of the "101" variety.

    Thanks for posting.

What a touching and spiritual send off to the Queen.

It looks as though it will go on for hours.

    Well done.
