The most plausible explanation is the case against Manafort wasn’t that strong—if it was, they would have gotten him earlier.

The wildcard are his political connections. If he was associated with the right powerful people they may have left him alone on that basis—even if they had a good case against him.

Manafort had no defense and the prosecution had 3 damning witnesses and tons of paperwork. He is up on a dozen charges and I don't see him getting off on many of them. Manafort is likely going to jail for a long time This jury will be done quickly. The time will be taken up addressing so many charges.

Maybe he and his lawyers didn't feel like he even needed one.

    Remember,
just the day before Mr Ellis dismissed a motion by the defence to dismiss the case based on those grounds.

He said the defence made a “significant” argument in claiming Mr Manafort could not have defrauded the Federal Savings Bank...
...but the judge said it's up to the jury to decide. Can't find the link to that.

The evidence of Manafort’s guilt is overwhelmingly strong, but the judge was helping the defence and a jury can be a wild card in any trial.

Maybe the defense couldn't be sure Manafort wouldn't hurt himself by testifying.

for my 2 cents. Now that this has gone to the jury i think manafort will walk. Its almost impossible for a case like this not to be decided on partisan lines and there are going to be some trump supporters among the 12.

Of course not. I'm sure trump will pardon him if he's convicted of anything.

Mueller could care less if Manafort walks at this point.
    You are truly clueless.

First of all, Manafort still has time to flip, right up until the judge passes sentence. Manafort could very well be holding off until after the verdict just to see if he needs to flip. If the verdict is guity, the prosecution can still offer him a reduced sentence in exchange for any information he might have that Mueller & co. might deem valuable.

We'll see what kind of balls he has soon enough.

Interesting though, the kind of criminal scum people like you admire.

Doesn't speak very highly of you, though.

They can always retry him in state court where a Trumpy pardon will carry no weight.

He'll probably be found guilty of something. The trial is in the most liberal part of the DC suburbs.

He no doubt hid money from the damned us gov. How in the hell could that justify life in prison ? The entire thing is an unlawful fruit of the poisoned tree/seditious treason coup by the entire deepstate. There must be an intervention soon. Be patient.

Yeah, that’s why he’ll be found guilty, not the evidence, not the tax returns or the emails, just because it’s liberal DC.

If Trump pardons this piece of human waste, congress needs to take away the power to pardon! Trump has badly misused the power to pardon, I don't want to see any future POTUS misuse this power, so end it now! Who is Trump going to pardon next, Dylann Roof?!!

Wouldn't that be double jeopardy ?
