Default Meth, ‘the devil’s drug,’ is back and killing more people than ever

Between opioids and meth the demographic shift will be speeding up

Meth was so widespread that newspapers used the term “Meth Capital of the World” to describe no less than 70 locations across the country, according to Nick Reding’s book “Methland: The Death and Life of an American Small Town.” (trump's base)

Deaths related to stimulants — mostly meth — were up nationwide by more than 250 percent from 2005 to 2015, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

At North Gwinnett High School more than a decade ago, Holcomb saw friends broken by meth, a drug with awful side effects. Her friends picked at sores on their faces compulsively, and their behavior was erratic. Some had bouts of psychosis. This isn’t all meth can do. It can rot teeth. It makes the user gaunt and look like death. Over time, it can even lower a user’s IQ. (yes trumps base)

Three pints of beer give me a severe hangover. I shudder to think what coming down from hard drugs would do.

Ladies and Gentleman, the result of a decades-long "war on drugs."

Anybody who sees these articles and thinks the solution is even further hard-lining on drug crimes has not been paying attention.

(How long until people realize this isn't working?)

    Legalize cannabis nationwide:

    https://www.npr.org/sections/health-...marijuana-laws
    https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...riptions-fall/
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...o-study-finds/

Treat addiction as a disease, not a crime:

    https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/b...rat-park-study
    https://www.theguardian.com/society/...isons-violence
    https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/b...we-should-stop

And fully repeal drug prohibition, which created the crazy potent drugs like crack cocaine and crystal meth in the first place:

    http://www.governancejustice.org/blo...of-prohibition
    https://www.cjpf.org/drug-policy/
    https://www.adamsmith.org/blog/liber...d-crystal-meth

We will see far more results from such solutions like the above than from yet another escalation of the failed war on drugs.

Actually, meth used to be prescribed medicinally. It's not a pharmaceutical drug anymore, but that is only a distinction of legality. And the simple fact is that many current pharmaceutical stimulants used to treat ADHD or narcolepsy can be highly addictive, and once that addiction is created many people resort to illicit stimulants like meth because prescription stimulants are too expensive. Same link exists between painkillers and heroin.

ADHD market is already bloated with such as Adderall, , Ritalin.
Those a re much less addictive then meth - much less powerful stimulant as well.

I wish I could find the study, but painkillers given to non- drug abusers rarely wind up addicting the patient.
    ( unlike the popular meme).
The precursor for addiction and progression to heroin is much more about the patients abuse of narcotics/drugs
then a simple treatment for pain

No. I would like to see this "study" you speak of because existing drug addicts don't tend to switch to prescription pills over illicit drugs. It's the other way around, it starts with pharmaceuticals and then moves to illicit drugs out of financial necessity.

And lol @ "a simple treatment for pain." If it was just that, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Responsible prescribing of painkillers is one thing. But over-prescribing of prescription painkillers is a very real, very glaring problem and that is leaving people addicted. Follow the $$$. The more opioids doctors prescribe, the more money they make. Naturally they will want to sell as many as possible, and creating an addict out of a patient is very profitable:

This seems to be a photo of opiate abusers, not meth abusers. Opiate abusers have frequently been known to misjudge their does and pass out in their car. Meth is a stimulant, it doesn't cause you to pass out.

Meth actually is a pharmaceutical drug, it's just almost never used. Mostly it's used for extreme cases of narcolepsy, *sometimes* it's used for cases of ADHD that have proven resistant to other drugs but that's pretty rare. It's not a first line drug, and what is produced is highly regulated and of pharmaceutical quantity without the impurities in present in street meth produced by amateur cooks.

Also afaik going from Adderall -> Meth is not nearly as common as pain pills to heroin/fentanyl. Usually meth addicts start on meth, it's cheap and does not have the deterrent of having to be injected for decent bio availability. Adderall also usually treats lifelong conditions anyway, and even then the withdrawal isn't so bad. Whereas Opiods have pretty harsh withdrawal, and are usually perscribed for limited times - when people's supplies run out, they are driven to look for more.

It can cause heart attacks, frequently.

I don't know why you are defending meth and condemning opioids. There is no comparison. Meth heads are insane.

Could you be defending them because they vote trump?
