It's a career that never interested me.

On a related note, I rewatched "Wall Street" a couple days ago. It was disgusting to see that amount of greed it took to deliberately fuck over people in order to line one's own pockets. Now we effectively have Gordon Gekko, albeit a demented and stupid one, in the WH. Sad.

I tried to search if anyone had done an analysis of the character's Dark Triad. No luck on a score, but clearly Gekko displayed all the traits of a Dark personality who was ruthless, lacking empathy and excessively greedy.

The three related traits are (Kaufman, 2019):

  • Faith in humanity: an overall tendency to see the best in people and believe that most people are basically good
  • Humanism: a belief in the inherent dignity and worth of other humans
  • Kantism: treating people as ends unto themselves rather than unwitting pawns.
The light triad of personality has been studied extensively by psychologists, and there is now a great deal of evidence to support the existence of this group of traits.

Ultimately, the common denominator among those themes is a tendency to pursue one’s own interests at the costs of others—as is the definition of D. Indeed, we rather recommend focusing on the overall D-score, although the newly gained information about which themes can be found under the umbrella of the Dark Factor of Personality further help clarify which sets of personality characteristics are shared by people with strong socially aversive tendencies.
