China caves on 125% tariff for major US export after White House predicts Beijing can't keep up

Fine:

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed executive orders Tuesday to relax some of his 25% tariffs on automobiles and auto parts, a significant reversal as the import taxes threatened to hurt domestic manufacturers.”

Did he “cave?”
Sounds like negotiation, you know that thing some folks say he hasn't been doing.

Look. I do not like Tariffs, I'm libertarian. I also do not like the pretensive "reciprocal" tariffs then using the trade deficit to figure it out and setting tariffs on some nations that do not even charge us one. None of this changes what I see happening. He says he's negotiating, the left says he isn't, then he makes changes based on those negotiations, the left says that it is "caving". In this I do not see "caving", I do see him listening to others and making decisions as well as working out what would help or hinder bringing manufacturing back to the US through negotiations. Even reading that article I see more evidence of listening and leading than I do of "caving"...

Seriously. While he's using a tool I do not like, he is doing what he says he would do and negotiating and changing actions with the changing markets.

First off, it was the topic thread and its’ poster who characterized everything as “caving,” not me, and I was demo for him he was in error

Trump says he is “negotiating” just like he was going to build a wall, end the Ukrainian War before he even took office, being all prices down on Day 1, etc., etc., etc.. In fact, at one point he said he was negotiating with over 200 countries (https://www.politico.com/news/2025/...als-time-interview-trade-war-tariffs-00309294) when their aren’t 200 countries in the world. Understandably why America is skeptical of Trump’s “negotiating” rhetoric, or anything for that matter

And lets keep in mind, while Trump is doing all this “negotiating” the economy is fading, and it all is self induced

Correct. The President is the coutry's top diplomat.

Look. I do not like Tariffs, I'm libertarian.
Your position is nothing more than a self-defeating slogan. You should have said "I don't like defending myself, I'm libertarian." If you don't like fighting then you have to love being able to defend yourself when attacked. If you don't like tariffs then you have to love being able to weild tariffs onto those who would beat the fuqk out of you with their own tariffs. This is "reciprocal tariffs, by the way, that you strangely refer to as "pretensive." Do you refer to defending yourself as "pretensive"?

I also do not like the pretensive "reciprocal" tariffs then using the trade deficit to figure it out
It's absolutely what the President is expected to do in putting America first. What do you think the trade deficit is? It is the amount of money other countries are bleeding out of you in unfair trade practices because you won't or can't defend yourself. I'm glad you aren't the President. You also explained why libertarians aren't going to be elected in large numbers anytime soon.

To which country would you most prefer America sell out? To which country should we just give it all away?

and setting tariffs on some nations that do not even charge us one.
You are naive. Many countries, such as Australia, engage in "NTBs" (non-tariff barriers) in which they impose bogus "regulations" or "standards" that effectively keep others out of their markets, i.e. unfair trade practices. If you check Trump's trade policy, he places a minimum 10% across-the-board tariff on all goods from those countries engaging in such NTBs. If they want Trump to drop the tariff then they need to cut that shit out and stop fuqking with us. The choice is entirely theirs. I'm glad Trump is President and not some spineless libertarian who's going to just roll over and not defend American commerce.

Seriously. While he's using a tool I do not like,
It's a weapon, and he is weilding it in our defense ... with great success as you have noted.
