Since 2001 the company I work for has been laying people off (I didn't work for them then, I was a contractor with a team of employees. I sold the contract and secured employment at the company for my team after the second round of layoffs. So far we're all still here). We haven't gone one month since the first layoffs without hearing about another round somewhere in the company.

Well, today I get a call from my wife at work, she tells me that the bees swarmed. This after I checked and found no signs of swarming about two weeks ago. Of course, at first I didn't believe her, such a young hive? Almost unheard of!

As the title suggests, my bee hive is thriving after its first winter. It's always interesting to look into a hive and see only females with no drones, but the girls kill the drones at the beginning of winter as they add nothing to the hive but mouths, the queen will be laying a few drone cells soon and there should be some of the hairy beasts in there for my summertime.
