Marijuana should be legalized, regulated and taxed the same as alcohol and tobacco. Hard drugs such as heroine and cocaine should be effectively decriminalized; addiction should be treated as a sickness, not a crime, while use of these substances would be discouraged by the public health sector. The "War on drugs" should be put to an end.

    Your thoughts?

all drugs that don't cause you to cause harm to other people by putting you into a psychotic rage should be made completely legal. and it should not be taxed or regulated. So that would include esctasy, mushrooms, cocaine, heroine, etc.

People that say drugs should be "decriminalized so they can be taxed" are using that as a way to make their cause more legitimate towards drugaphobic tax and spenders who just love the idea of taking other people's money so much that they wouldn't be able to resist it.

It should be taxed because its a good way to draw revenue, and it doesn't hurt the economy the way income taxes and such do.

Whether its right or wrong, politicians decide what is legal or illegal. And they do not do anything unless there is something they can gain from it.

Offering the tax revenue is a small price to pay.

"Sin taxes" are less invasive than other forms of taxation, which is why I'd support the taxation of marijuana, cocaine, etc., thereby permitting us to lower sales, property, and income taxes. Another reason the tax should be collected is to cover any damage to public property resulting from drug abuse.

The Feds should stay out completely. States should create tax stamps that will expire based on the size of the bag or weed. People would bring their pot into a state office, it would be weighed and taxed according to weight. The money would stay with the states completely. I also have a problem with the tobacco industry having anything to do with selling marijuana. This should be a cottage industry, small local growers.

Drugs that affect the mind enough that the person would be a danger to society should never be legalized, for taxes or any other reason. Though if one would be legalized it would of course be marijuana, as it does not put as much danger on others and is the most controllable.

Atticus, all that ever does is ensure only the irresponsible will dispense such drugs, it ensures it is available to children rather than adults. There is a reason that it is more difficult for the young to get alcohol than it is for them to get any of the other illicit drugs. Nobody is checking IDs when they sell them cocaine...

If some idiot uses drugs, loses his mind, goes out, and gets killed, how is that bad for society?

All drugs should be legalized. If income taxes were abolished, I would be okay with taxes on MJ, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, etc. - but only if there were no income taxes.

With legalization, prices go down and you reduce or eliminate the violent criminal from the market. Moreover, you create more wealth and increase safety of drug production.

That said, I would never touch any of it, personally.
