Figures SmarterThanFew is a secessionist...
wikipedia???? seriously????? wow, how stupid are you now?In response to the election of an anti-slavery Republican as President, 11 southern slave states declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America ("the Confederacy"); the other 25 states supported the federal government ("the Union"). After four years of warfare, mostly within the Southern states, the Confederacy surrendered and slavery was outlawed...

the assaults were trying to pass laws that would give an entirely unfair advantage to the northern states, rendering the southern states subservient to them. What assault was this? I'm aware of no assault, save for the political criticisms which Northerners frequently leveled against the South.
figures you're still making ASSumptions based on facts not in evidence.Figures SmarterThanFew is a secessionist...
And what of those that FEEL the cross is a symbol of subjugation, or the Star of David is a sign of oppression, or that the Maltese Cross is to close to the Iron Cross, or anything else for that matter.
Because it seems that you're suggesting that when ANY group FEELS that a symbol is a sign of negativity that EVERYONE is stop using it, in deference to that group.
Should people petition that flags be banned; BECAUSE of what a particular grouip might FEEL?
the flag represents an illegal rebellion, i.e., they lost - deal with it

...what a group of people feels about a particular symbol is irrelevant...
Ergo: Until there is a ban, people should just keep their opinions about the flag, to exactly that; opinions about the flag.
Unless you want to campaign to have the majority flags of the Native American Tribes banned also, seeing as how they too represent rebellions that lost!
i did not say that
i said that such is governed by scotus and that lawsuits will determine said symbols future, also, there is action at the state level as to what shall be displayed at local government locations
native american flags may be displayed on reservation as they are separate entities from the federal government and have their own governments (up to a point)
And when they display those flags of rebellion (your words) outside of the Rez?
my sympathy is with them, my father was born on a reservation and what this nation has done to the native americans is criminal
however, having said that, if the flags are flags of rebellion then they must be treated as such
the government cannot allow itself to be challenged successfully - otherwise we will have another civil war
So you would not allow the Native American flags to be shown anywhere, except on the Rez; because they represent rebellion against the United States?

Wouldn't it be bad to fly the US flag because it represents rebellion against Britain?
it would depend on whether the tribe was still in a state of rebellion or another treaty was in place
when people display confederate flags and say the south will rise again, i consider that an act of rebellion
the principal difference between the native americans and the south is that the south waged and lost a civil war with the united states of america
the u s of a tended to be the aggressor and treaty violator in conflicts between the u s of a and the native americans that the native americans lost along with their land
what are you searching for in the way of a response
Absolutely, at least by DQ's reasoning
Are you trying to say that they South is still in a stage of rebellion, just because of a slogan that has nothing to do wih secession; because there are still some branches of certain Native American tribes that feel like they're still at war with the US?
"After her secession from the Union, South Carolina perceived herself as a sovereign state - the presence of Union forces in an armed fortress whose guns commanded her principal harbor was intolerable as it belied her independence. For President Lincoln the voluntary abandonment of this fortress was equally intolerable as it would be a tacit acknowledgment of South Carolina's independent status."
Mabye Lincoln shouldn't have tried to reinforce the troops at Fort Sumter; because it was perceived as an act of agression.
the major difference is that we won and are now a nation, whereas the south lost and is not a nation
maybe the south should not have lost, but they did
interesting problem, when a war is fought, usually one side or the loses and has to deal with the consequences
