"In a major victory for gay rights activists, a federal judge ruled on Wednesday that a voter initiative banning same-sex marriage in California violated the Constitution's equal protection and due process rights clauses.

After a five-month wait, 9th Circuit District Court Judge Vaughn Walker offered a 136-page decision in the case of Perry v. Schwarzenegger, firmly rejecting Proposition 8, which was passed by voters in November 2008."

More proof that the left is totalitarian. To hell with the will of the people.

That's an interesting take. I always see opposition to same-sex marriage as the equivalent of opposing freedom & liberty.

As for the "will of the people," you should probably read what some of the country's founders had to say about the tyranny of the majority.

So for over 200 years in the USA, this nation has opposed freedom and liberty........ I don't think that is going to work.

Do you believe the USA is a nation that has allowed tyranny over the majority for over 200 years?

That's tyranny OF the majority, not "over". The way our system is structured, there are a lot of checks against it - but yes, it has still existed in cases. You don't know a lot about history if you think there has been no oppression or restriction of freedom on various groups since the country's inception.

What does that have to do with the definition of marriage? That's the issue. Marriage is between a man and a woman. This was never an issue until the definition was challenged, then all of a sudden we are a nation of bigots.

Man, you can really switch on a dime, can't you? When one question doesn't work, you just try a different angle.

Who defined marriage as "between a man & a woman?"

Hey dixon, I have to ask man did you ever post on the old AOL rate bush boards? I keep thinking I recognize your screen name but can't place it.

Nice

While I oppose Prop 8, I believe this ruling sets a potentially negative precedent. It is almost inevitable that this matter will eventually make it to the Supreme Court. Do you believe the Supreme Court should impose gay marriage onto all 50 states?
