I support the idea that people should be responsible for their actions. aborting their unplanned child because they were too stupid to practice some sort of contraceptive measures is not being responsible, it's evading responsibility. The methods of safe haven dropoffs and adoptions is at least halfway responsible.

There are States/places/hospitals where a person can drop off a newborn, no questions asked. The parent's responsibility ends there so what is the point of all this responsibility talk? There are a number of circumstances where it would be better to abort a foetus, teenage girls, unmarried mothers, large families etc. Having said that I do not advocate abortion as a primary means of contraception, unfortunately I fear that sex education in many US schools is probably verboten by the religious right.

I think that the aborted attempt in the UK to lower the limit for terminations to 20 or 22 weeks was right but 24 weeks is the absolute upper limit. What many on the right fail to understand, or more likely chose not to, is that backstreet abortions used to be a huge problem which resulted in many deaths. Do you really want those days to return?

Why should some teenage girls be permanently blighted for a mistake, probably occasioned, by some selfish bastard refusing to wear a condom in a drunken fumble? It's all very saying that there are many couples wanting to adopt but I wonder how many want brown babies for example? In the UK, it is very seldom that you hear anybody denouncing abortion per se, like in the US. The debate here is mostly centred around the upper limit on terminations and you never see religious nutters hanging outside abortion clinics terrorising the staff.
