Obama's jobs bill falls to pieces in Congress

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's job-creation package effectively fell to pieces on Monday as a top Republican lawmaker said the House of Representatives will only pass portions of the $447 billion measure.

As Obama continued to press lawmakers for a vote on his signature legislation, Representative Eric Cantor, the No. 2 House Republican, said that was not going to happen.

Asked if the bill as a complete package was dead, Cantor said: "Yes."

The bill appeared to be in trouble in the Democratic-controlled Senate as well, where aides from both parties said it will likely fail when it comes up for a vote later this month.

seems both parties don't want this bill. perhaps obama should have consulted with them first?

Yeah, I'm sure a little consulting would have done the trick.

why not? he basically pounded them all over the head with his bully pulpit. most bills are successful because congress works beforehand to get support. i don't believe obama did this or didn't try to. he just came out with a big circus and demanded it be passed. not good politicking.

We have a President who doesn't understand who things work in congress,in business, and he doesn't understand America. He's is good at stirring the victims that constitute his base and using class envy, but he's not a leader and he's not a uniter. He's bad for America and needs to step down or be removed as soon as possible before he does any more damage.

He did! How did you miss his "Pass it, Pass it NOW--Please God Almighty, PASS IT NOW!" speech?

I love how all his speeches pretend that republicans are the ones holding it back, when the Dems in the Senate hadn't scheduled the bill until after their vacation, much after.

What speeches are you referring to? His main speech on it earlier in Sept. credited both Dems & Republicans for the ideas in the bill, and singled out both Dems who would oppose it for its changes to Medicare, and Republicans who would oppose it for its tax increases for the higher tax brackets. I didn't see a speech where he pretended it was just the GOP holding it back.

Does anyone know anyone who actually thought the bill would pass? I don't.

So, you are basically saying the same thing I said when it was introduced. Obama is cynically using the short memories of Americans in an attempt to create an issue that he can run on, because he doesn't have anything else to grab hold of....

I understand that.

I doubt very seriously that I'm saying the same thing that you said.

In most speeches that I have seen Obama simply says he "wants it back", then blames "congress" for not passing it, while trying to maintain a class war by suggesting they are doing it to protect "billionaires" from tax increases.

In most speeches you've seen in the past 3 weeks, or most clips you've heard on Hannity?

Well, I only listened to the one full speech in CO and portions of others, including his weekly speeches on the radio (they come on just as I am waking up on the weekend).

However, this stupid assumption that I watch Hannity is your own fictional account, probably self-biographical fiction. We've gone through this before, you get stupidly hacktacular once you get into Obama Apologist mode and start into dumb "accusations". I have watched Hannity, but it isn't something I do regularly. I don't like tuning in to editorials with like opinions to mine, I prefer to watch channels with disagreement.

Just kidding! I know you're not a Hannity guy. It's just that the stuff I've heard has him challenging both Dems & Republicans who would oppose.

Guess it didn't work.

My guess is you are listening to official WH speeches while I am tuning in to the campaign speeches. I know that at this moment it becomes difficult to determine the difference between the two.

:P

onceler admits he throws out false accusations.....

is anyone surprised?

LOL - so desperate for the gotcha. You'll get it someday.

I thought it was preposterous that Damo talked about the "speeches" he saw - as though he saw multiple full-length speeches. Obama's standard stump speech on this has challenged both Dems & Republicans.

So yeah - I was kidding a little. I should have know the board police was hovering....

Republicans CAN'T sign on to creating jobs...NO MATTER WHAT. They will be railroaded out of office by Grover Norquist and the politburo.
