Troy Davis execution delayed

Only for a week, but at least someone other than those mouth-breathers in GA will get a chance to review the case.

The execution of Troy Davis was delayed temporarily by the US supreme court on Wednesday night in a dramatic intervention just as he was due to be put to death by lethal injection.

The last-minute decision caused confusion outside the prison in Jackson, Georgia, where family, supporters and civil rights campaigners broke into celebration as they believed the court had granted Davis a stay of execution.

But it quickly emerged that the delay was only temporary, while the justices considered whether to issue a stay.

Until that moment it seemed almost certain that Davis would be executed, as the Georgia supreme court had rejected a last-ditch appeal by Davis's lawyers over the 1989 murder of off-duty policeman Mark MacPhail, for which Davis had been sentenced to death despite overwhelming evidence that the conviction is unreliable.

A Butts County superior court judge had also declined to stop the execution.

In other news the white trash supremicist piece of shit in Texas who dragged the brother to his death was executed tonight in Texas. I don't know if people were out protesting for that scumbag but his ass is gone.

wtf? i thought it was supposed to be delayed by a week..

They didn't get the memo, apparently.

Too bad... so sad... another pinhead bites the big one!

Sorry, can't feel sorry for the guy... I think he was guilty as charged and it's a travesty the family and taxpayers have had to deal with his sorry ass for the past 22 years, while he exhausted every attempt at appeal. Liberals don't really give a shit about the details of this case or justice, the guy had black skin and was convicted of killing a white police officer, that's all they need to know. It just automatically stands to reason with a Lib that he was innocent, framed by racist white authorities, and wrongly convicted (and executed.)

I think I'm going to have to go on a hunger strike and kill myself over this. Hopefully, you can all enjoy my death as much as you enjoyed his.

I have a hard time seeing executions as justice. Especially if there is any question of the person's guilt.

Surely, as a society, the measure of our own worth is less about celebrations of death and more about our mercy.

Further proof if proof was necessary that America has a long way to go before it can call itself a civilised community.
Seven of nine witnesses recanted but still you KILLED him. You killed this man, everyone of you! And leaders of the bloodthirsty scum on this forum?
Who but the men whose minds are closed tighter than a ducks arse and who represent the very bottom of your society.

AND THEY CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIAN!
What revolting pieces of shit they are to be sure.

How many people have YOU killed, Dixie?
How many people have YOU killed, Bravo?

There are no words that adequately express the disgust we feel. Georgia forever on my mind!
(Now you can laugh or insult)

Recanted? After how long? After how much cajoling from the black community to reconsider what they saw?

I have known police officers all my life, and one thing I can tell you about that 'brotherhood'... if someone kills one of their own, they are going to bring that individual to justice, they won't be satisfied with, or settle for, anything less. To suggest that they would rush to blame it on an innocent man, is unthinkable and unrealistic to believe. They did a thorough investigation, gathered evidence, made a case, and convicted the man with a majority black jury.

Here, let me help explain it to you Low... You are a Libbie.. and he is a black man who killed a cop... so it stands to reason you have to be on his side and see this as some inequality or social injustice... no doubt, perpetrated by evil racist white men... and the beat goes on!

William S. Sessions who is the former director of the FBI, a former federal judge and federal prosecutor does not agree with you. I guess he should have consulted with you first!!

Troy Davis protested his innocence, right up to his dying breath. He addressed the MacPhail family directly from the gurney and again proclaimed his innocence, asked mercy for those about to kill him and asked his friends and supporters to continue working to get to the truth of officer MacPhail's death.

You are nearly right. You should have said 'they are going to bring an individual' .... with a good chance that he is black and/or poor and/or has a previous conviction and/or they are not of the same state and or they just dont give a shit.

I dont know how many times I have to say this, but honestly, I am not what you call a Libbie.

I am anti violence, anti death penalty FOR level playing fields, AGAINST exploitation and VERY much against any man who will lie to gain personal advantage. Some of those ideals, I am sure, may co-incide with what you believe a Libbie to support and some may even be what an extreme right winger like yourself supports. But any man, any society who, on the one hand condemns killing and at the same time kills and has killed more innocent people and put to death more criminals that ANY other civilised nation in modern times must be held to ridicule and shunned on as many international stages as is possible.
People like you are slowly losing and, with good luck and a fair wind, will be replaced by a younger, more humane generation.
