HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The U.S. Supreme Court has halted the execution of a black man convicted of a double murder in Texas 16 years ago after his lawyers contended his sentence was unfair because of a question asked about race during his trial.

Forty-eight-year-old John Buck was scheduled for lethal injection Thursday evening.

At issue was a psychologist's testimony that black people were more likely to commit violence.

A similar request to block the punishment was made to Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Perry is the Republican frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination and his actions have now come under closer scrutiny.

Perry's stance on capital punishment has garnered widespread support.

I personally oppose capital punishment as long as the possibility of executing an innocent person exists.

Oooh, a bitch slap to Perry. That's gotta smart. LOL.

Perry was lieutenant governor when Duane Buck decided to cross the line and become a murder.

The question that should be asked is.... Will Obama name Duane Buck to be the new head spokesman for the New Black Panthers?

Heres a bitch slap upside yo head fool.....
Perry didn't find him guilty of murder or sentence him to death....nor is Perry in the state and any decision on a reprieve from the governor's office
would have fallen to Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

Yet, who is running around, bragging about executions, and Texas big on capital punishment? Dewhurst? Moron.

man death penalty is a trickey one. I cant really for sorry for child killers or other murderers in the slightest and am happy they die. But I know someone innocent is probably going to be owned along the way. I file it under meh don't really care. like 95% of all my other political persuasions.

Well it's nice to know you have at least one conviction. ;)

People don't become "a murder"....the correct term would be ' a murderer", you dummie.
And the New Black Panthers are hardly relevant, but that doesn't stop morons like you from bringing them up, as if they were. If there are any doubts as to his guilt, then the execution should be halted and he should be re-tried. Duh.

Nobody is running around bragging about executions...Perry was asked about them in a debate and that is the only time I've heard about them.
Perry didn't find them guilty.....
Perry didn't sentence them the death....
Perry didn't hear the evidence or sit in on the trial.....
The appeals courts hears any complaints about the trial and its not the governors place to
be judge and jury putting himself above the courts....

Thats makes you a lying asshole....mis-characterizing the facts....

Don't try to tell me what is going on, and I live right here in Houston, Tx. I've been familiar with Rick Perry, ever since George Bush was governor.
Mind your own business. Bitch.

Poor Blabo.

Tell the board, Blabo:

Do you believe that Texans convicted of capital murder get too many legal appeals, Blabo?

And what about the accused who have been exonerated by DNA evidence? Can we all say, "oops, almost made a fatal mistake"?
