Way to go Obama II!

“In this district, there is a large number of people who went to the polls tonight who didn’t support the president to begin with and don’t support Democrats — and it’s nothing more than that,” she said in a telephone interview.
LOL..

This district has been D for over 100 years and she tries to blow it off as if this district never supported Obama.

technically, it was only a mere 91 years since the last Republican held it.

Her excuses and lame attempts to blow it off as 'no big deal' was indeed comical. I love the fact she is in a position of 'leadership'.

while this is historic, i don't see this so much as a take on obama, rather, a take on weiner. just like the gop seat lost because the guy had serious adultery issues or something like that. i wonder if the dems would have pressured him to resign if they knew he would lose his seat.

The seat in NY has been held by Dems since 1920. Dems hold a HUGE advantage in terms of registered voters. Try reading the article. Many of the Dem voters quoted stated it was more to do with the state of the economy and Obama's position on Israel.

Your comment on the WI seat comparison might be valid had it been Weiner who ran and lost. That is not the case here.

like i said, i don't see it so much a take on obama, meaning, he probably has some part in it, but imo, it is mostly about weinergate. wasn't he just reelected in 2010?

So you think Dem voters decided... 'hey, we are going to hold Anthony Weiner's indiscretions against the new Dem candidate'????

That is pretty retarded. Again... READ the story.... PAY attention to the comments in this and most other stories about this election. The common thread is not weinergate, but the ECONOMY, Obama's handling of the economy and Obama's position on ISRAEL.

“I am a registered Democrat, I have always been a registered Democrat, I come from a family of Democrats — and I hate to say this, I voted Republican,” said Linda Goldberg, 61, after casting her ballot in Queens. “I need to send a message to the president that he’s not doing a very good job. Our economy is horrible. People are scared.

Mr. Turner capitalized on discontent in some corners of the Jewish community with Mr. Obama’s posture toward Israel and his handling of the Middle East peace process. Former Mayor Edward I. Koch, a Democrat, urged voters to rebuke the president by voting for Mr. Turner.

But Mr. Doherty, a retired social worker, said his concern about entitlement programs had been overshadowed by the opportunity he saw to express his unhappiness about the economy in the special election. “We need to deliver a message to Washington,” he said. “We need jobs, and we need to focus on the economy, and we need to stop fighting with one another.”

Seriously... try reading

calm down skippy. it is just an opinion. if it was all about obama and the economy, how did weiner win in 2010. obama hasn't changed his stance on israel since then. and the economy is pretty much the same. this is not the first time someone from a party screws things up so bad that people vote in the party just to spite. it was a 8% percent difference in vote iirc.

Again moron, try READING. Your opinion is based on NOTHING. Try reading what people IN NY are saying about the race....

Turner defeated prominent Queens Democrat David Weprin, 54 percent to 46 percent. Initially, the race was expected to be an easy win for the district's long-entrenched Democratic machine. Democrats outnumber Republicans here by a 3-to-1 margin, and voters chose Barack Obama over John McCain in 2008 by 11 points. Weiner held the seat for a dozen years. And Weprin was a tested candidate whose family has long been involved in Queens politics.

Koch did not come out against Weiner in 2010....

Turner and his supporters credited Democrat and popular former Mayor Ed Koch with turning that dynamic around. Koch, along with Democratic assemblyman Dov Hinkin, crossed party lines to endorse Turner, citing concerns about Obama’s support for a return to Israel’s pre-1967 borders. Israel became a significant issue in this race, as the district holds one of the largest Jewish populations in the country.

and from voters....

But Israel wasn’t the only issue in the race, and it’s important to note that Orthodox Jews here tend to vote more conservatively on a number of issues. The economy, which is the dominant theme of the presidential election, was also at the forefront, and many voters said their frustration with the Obama administration prompted them to cast their ballots as they did.

So tell me Yurt... WHAT are you basing your opinion on?

Also... in November of 2010, the economy was in better position than it is today.

oh yay.....3 people say something you agree with and that must mean it is true. and one of them is the OPPONENT.

Ok moron... show us where you have found voters stating they voted for a Rep because they were unhappy with Weiner and thus voted against the Dem, not named Weiner.

Wasn't it not that long ago in New York that a long time Republican district went to a Democrat when the Democrat candidate basically ran against Ryan's plan for Medicare? Guess that didn't play much of a role in this race.

Asked by RCP how the contest in this historically Democratic district had become so competitive, Weprin himself insisted that was not necessarily the case. “We don’t know if it’s so close yet; the polls are not indicative of who is going to vote in a special election,” he said. “We think we have a much more energized base, people who care about preserving the entitlement programs, preserving Social Security, preserving Medicare. In the end I think we are going to get our message out and are hoping for a big victory today.”

Weprin is ALMOST as delusional as Yurt.

Freaky denies that Weinermania was a factor?

Then there's the manufactured hysteria surrounding the purported "Ground Zero Mosque"...

Turner, the man behind scandalous daytime television — not to mention having launched conservative provocateur Rush Limbaugh's television talk show — has attempted to appeal to the district's large population of Orthodox Jews by linking Weprin to the controversial plan to build an Islamic community center near the former World Trade Center site and by tying Weprin to Obama's stance on Israel.

Weprin, who is an Orthodox Jew, represents the same Assembly district that was held by his father and brother for a total of 38 years. As for the mosque, he said, "They have an absolute right to build on that site. But if they could work out an accommodation with the 9/11 families and find an alternative site, that would be preferable."
The district, which includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens, "has always been seen as sort of the epicenter of the Jewish vote in New York City," said Chris Malone, professor of political science at Pace University. "So Israel is always in the background."

Wait 'til the voters find out they elected the guy who came up with this:

i love how freak defends a gop seat being lost as no big deal because the gop guy was involved in a scandal, but now it is a dem, it is all about obama and not the scandal

SF's opinion is based on a few people's comment, one of them being the guy who ran against the dem candidate, geeee, i can't imagine why he would say such things. LOL.

just because the media hasn't cited anyone saying they voted pub because of weiner doesn't prove they did not. go ahead and rely on your few people and proclaim victory. you're still spouting OPINION.

and you call me a moron. lmao
