Robert Byrd, Dem. Senator from Virginia, Ex-KKK Grand dragon, filibustered the Civil Rights bill. Without Republican support, the bill would never have passed. I think you'll find more republican votes for it than Democrat. Check it out. I could be wrong.

Oh, yes he can. Just like folks can't wrap their brains around the fact that the first black President is possibly one of the smartest presidents "ever"...likewise, USFreedom911 can't admit that I'm smarter than him, and he can't compete with me. And as of yet, no one here, or elsewhere has been able to prove that I am remotely "a racist". It's just a reactionary exclamation to being unable to coherently express their opposition to my positions.

I don't know how many times I have to reprint it for him and others. Byrd recanted his KKK days, and worked on behalf of minorities, much like George Wallace who had a similar mea culpa.

Byrd only publicly recanted because he knew it was an unpopular position. In private he was still a racist. He used the word "nigger" fluently and in fact let it fly on the Senate floor.
