Boehner: take the offer!

Rationalist

Hail Voltaire
I'd like it if the Democrats were willing to cut $61 billion (hell, I'd like them to cut much more than that), but the fact of the matter is, it is not politically realistic at this point. If the government shuts down, I suspect Democrats will hold their ground. By the time Republicans compromise, they will be on the receiving end of the blame.

It's a fucking miracle that Democrats are willing to cut a dime of spending. Republicans should take the offer and instead focus on the 2012 election.

That's what I've been saying, but the budget hawks want to force the shutdown. I think they're playing with fire.

"We control one third of one half of the government here in Washington. We can't impose our will on another body. We can't impose our will on the Senate," Boehner told reporters at his weekly press conference. "All we can do is to fight for all the spending cuts that we can get an agreement to and the spending limitations as well," Boehner added.

Although Tea Party supporters across from the Capitol were waging a direct challenge to Boehner, he welcomed them, "I am glad that they are here. I am glad that they are engaged in the process. I said over a year ago that we should talk with the Tea Party folks - that we should listen to them and we should walk amongst them and I don't feel any differently about it today."

THe R's are in danger of overplaying there hand. I still belive they will resolve it over the weekend.

hey epic....obama wants a shutdown because he is going to veto any extension....but in your world, its just the gop huh?

That's how it looks right now, but things can change quickly on that front.

If there is a shutdown, it basically comes down to who can market their efforts better, and do a better job of demonizing the other side...

I said "the budget hawks", not the GOP.

What are you going to do now, claim I'm really someone else, or accuse me of "obsessively posting" while asking "who cares"?

how did it make you feel when the board admin at uspo deleted your "yurt" account and instead granted me that name because i showed them you stole my posts etc from here and usmb?

:)

Who says the Democrats were willing to cut $61 billion???

Thats what the Republicans wanted and Dims wanted 4 billion?.....

Boehner would gladly take that number, as long as it wasn't some ridiculous proposal that is it all come from the defense budget or something....

No guts, no glory!

Nobody. I said I'd like it IF the Democrats were willing, but they are not.

They increased their offer from $4 billion to $33 billion, an offer that the Republicans would be wise to accept. If the TP can't deal with it, fuck 'em. Though I suspect most TP people will understand the circumstances.

The Tea Party will be happy with a shutdown as well, simply because it also cuts spending.

something you proles don't get from the TP people. They seem to be the only ones who know that massive spending cuts are the only way for us to solidly improve the economy instead of propping it up like a house of cards.

And the Tea Party may take the hit if public opinion disapproves.

if public opinion wants to see another downturn and crash like last time, they are welcome to it, i guess. eventually, people have to decide between stability and constant shifting. we'll be waiting for them to make the right choice.

People don't always do what's best in the long run, do they?

No fair taxes are also a way. We are a rich nation whose rich ride on the back of the lesser people's. We have been bamboozled into thinking we are on the verge of collapse, ala Kock Brothers and the rest of the evil empire!
