Petraeus Says Quran Burning Endangers War Effort .

Suggesting that the preacher shouldn't exercise his right to burn the Koran. I don't agree with it, but it's symbolic speech and I'll be damned if we lose the right to express ourselves, whether it be by law or by culture.

What a load of shit. The dumbass pastor is free to burn Qurans all he wants and hasn't been stifled (nor should be) by anyone anywhere. There ain't no right to be free from criticism for doing stupid shit.

That's not stifling speech. It's exercising your right to speak.

Petraeus has as much right to offer his opinion as anyone. That's what some seem to be missing here.

Now, I wonder how someone like Yurt felt about something like the boycott of the Dixie Chicks. To me, THAT is stifling, or "chilling" free speech. In that case, you're actually promising or engaging harmful ramifications against the party speaking.

But merely making a suggestion? That's called speech.
True enough, and I'm not articulating myself well. Better ask when I have a few drinks.

As pointed out earlier, I'm not articulating myself well with regards to what is and isn't stifling.

lmao...boycotting the dixie chicks is stifling and chilling speech....but a four star general saying, yeah, you're free to burn the quran, but the blood of us soldiers will be on your hands...is not

you're a lunatic

Did the doctors perform the abortions in a public arena and invite the world's media in to watch?

what does that have to do with anything? now answer the question...are the doctors responsible for the action of the lunatics? yes or no. you're avoiding it because you know you're busted for being intellectual dishonest and hypocritical....i bet you don't blame the doctors....

in fact, i would wager no one who blames that pastor would blame the doctors....its intellectually dishonest

What do you consider to be "stifled speech"...could you provide an example?

a four star general saying if you exercise free speech a certain way, us soldiers could be killed or put in harm's way...yeah...that really makes me feel comfortable with exercising that right....that is called peer pressure and it is chilling...period.

I have great difficulty in understanding why there are laws to protect the US flag, which is a symbol of the state, yet you feel that there is no parallel with religious symbols.

Because the topic isn't about laws, it is about whether the pastor has moral responsibility for lunatics that use any excuse they can to blame random strangers and kill them. My position is he has no moral responsibility for the actions of lunatics, it is the position of others that we should not ever do anything for fear a lunatic may use it as an excuse to kill randomly.

you're a lunatic

A general is just speaking. A boycott is intended to harm the party economically.

You're reeeeaaaaaally dumb....

Oh...it's about feeling "comfortable"...maybe we could send the pastor a nice recliner & a catered lunch?

Ridiculous.

LOL

you really need to stay out of this thread. your ignorance and downright dishonesty is even more embarrassing than your usual silliness....a boycott is chilling speech but a four star general telling you that you will likely have the blood of us soldiers on your hands is not chilling....

you still have not admitted you screwed up by claiming falsely yelling fire in a theater is protected speech

LOL

you're beyond dumb, its like having a conversation with a lunatic, but you've dug your heels in and will never see what the conversation is really about...you're now in myopic onceler mode and we'll see many lies and insane responses like the one above

do you blame abortion doctors for the acts of a few lunatics? abortions have consequences....

i bet you don't blame them....which of course would make you intellectual dishonest

Where did I claim that exactly? You really can't read - it's a shame.

And yeah - you have it backwards on this one. A boycott is economic harm - it's ramifications for exercising speech. That is chilling speech. What Petraeus did was not.

You're really confused on this one. It's extremely embarassing for you....

Let me guess - you saw what I wrote, thought "now I've got him!", went back to copy that post...and realized that I didn't say it was protected speech. And now you're trying to find a way to spin that, because you have so much invested in it by now.

Right?
