zappa, if you have been following the story closely, then you should also know that there are some people out there with a serious entitlement issue, in that they should be able to commit any crime they want and suffer no consequences. So, I'm left wondering what the point of your post is, unless it's just to try and broadbrush those of us in texas with the same victim mentality as those claiming that an 11 year old girl was asking for it because of the way she dresses.

The point I was making was that any parent that would stand up in public and claim an 11 year old girl "had it coming" because of what she was wearing, is just one more example of why children in this country are falling behind in school.
We keep trying to blame unions and public schools for our underperforming kids, but it's parents like those at that meeting that have totally failed in their responsibility as parents and they are as much, if not more, responsible for the dismal state of education in this country as any union teacher.

I would venture to say that the example you've given is just one of many that occur when generations of adults have been raised in the belief that government is there to take care of them. It gives them some feeling of non-liability.
I don't think anyone is blaming unions for underperforming kids, but I'll happily place blame on the schools as equally as I would the parents. For a few decades now, parents have looked at schools as daytime babysitters/guardians, expected to bring their children up as productive adults in place of the parents responsibilities. Thus, the failure of our current generations.
