Man, that quake is crazy. I was at the bar when they switched the TV from basketball to the quake coverage and all of a sudden a bunch of drunk people sobered up and started watching the quake coverage.

I was here in 1989 for the 6.9 quake. In 1906 it was a 7.9 quake that burned down SF. This was 8.9. Wow.

My nephew in in the US Marine Corp, and landed in Japan yesterday for a tour there. I am praying he is ok.

This is a huge quake.

This is a huge quake.

Last news report said that all American Military Personel, in Japan, have been accounted for.
Whether that is good or bad, they didn't say.
Hopefully it meant no casualties.

And it increases exponentially. 8.9 is HUGE.

My son and two friends and I watched the tsunami roll in, taking everything in its path. The young woman who was with us kept asking, what is going to happen to the people in the cars. She just couldn't grasp the reality of what we were seeing. She started to cry and it made me cry. It was fascinatingly devastating. I still can't get my mind around it.

WB, I will be thinking of him today and hoping for his safety. My thoughts are with you my friend and his family, too.

It sounds like there was little damage at the military base. I am going to think positive.

I have family in Guam....there under a Tsunami watch. Time to stay away from the beach.

I hope so, too. The tsunami that rolled into Seward in '64 killed more people than the Good Friday quake. They went down to the beach to watch it come in, and then they left with it.

My mom's hometown of Cresent City, CA was hit in 1964 as a result of a major earthquake in Alaska. Now it appears that the town is expecting more waves. The last time killed that town, destroying the fishing and logging industries, and turning Cresent City into a ghost town for decades.

Fingers crossed! Any news on when it will arrive?

My brother's own coastal property right above Cresent City...

We also have friends right where the quake hit in Japan-no one has been able to reach them. We are praying that they are in a shleter somewhere-electricity was knocked-out and the temperatures are very cold right now.

They're talking about aftershocks in the high 6's. Wow.

The worst quake I have been through is a 6.5 and thankfully the epicenter was out in the inlet! It was scary. The kids were little and outside playing, it was hard to run out to them. The ground first was moving in waves and it nauseated me, then it started to shake back and forth. It seemed to last forever, but I believe was less than minute! This frog was jumping!
