It is based on a flawed understanding of how liberalism and conservatism are defined. Both terms are contextual. For example, in pre-1917 Russia the Tsarists were the conservatives (reactionaries) while the Bolsheviks were liberals (revolutionaries). Similarly, the classical liberalism of many founding fathers including James Madison would be more akin to libertarianism than social (welfare state) liberalism. In spite of what Bfgrn claims, conservatism has nothing inherently to do with setting up an oligarchy. Under some circumstances (i.e. the communist revolution in USSR, China, Cuba, and Mozambique, to name a few) is actually a move toward liberalism. Liberalism seeks change (sometimes good, sometimes bad) while conservatives seek to either maintain the status quo, limit change or stop it altogether (sometimes good, sometimes bad). Ultimately I believe there must be a balance of the two.

I'd prefer a government with a bit more meat on it, but yes, I do believe maximum liberty is achieved when the government stays out of personal and, in most cases, economic affairs.

Dude, it's really not hard to see. There are several posts prior to this speculating or claiming right wing affiliation for the shooter. At which point Yurt, being an asshole like myself, felt it would be amusing to claim the opposite to be contrary and illustrate that the motivation behind the shooting is either unknown or irrelevant.
