Don't Ask, Don't TELL

The way I remember things is that DADT was a compromise that the Clinton Admin worked out because before DADT military personnel who admitted that they were gay could be dishonorably discharged for doing so. DADT came about to prevent that from happening. As long as the personnel kept their sexual orientation to themselves, there was no problem.

It seems to me that by repealing it, we have returned to the pre-Clinton days. However, the way that the left is crowing about this "victory" it seems that maybe they assume that homosexuals will now be at liberty to flaunt their sexual preferences without fear of consequences. Is that a good thing?

Many people believed and warned that DADT was the first step towards allowing homosexuals to flaunt their preferences in the military. Perhaps they were right... maybe that should be a warning to us in regards to this years Health Insurance "Reform" bill?

She could truly uphold the code of honor before, nothing has changed. This can do nothing to benefit the military, it can do very much to damage it. That's my opinion, but hell, it's passed into law now, so we will get to find out who is right! I predict there will be all kinds of problems arise, as a result of this.

You're doing a really good job of spreading innuendo, supposition, accusation, and assertions; but you haven't supported a single thing.
Could you possible put your fears to pen, so to speak, and allow us to understand why you have formed the opinions you have?

USF has a point Dix...why do you keep avoiding him?

How about some SPECIFICS??

As USF has already asked...and it wasn't that tough a question...how about you SUPPORT your supposition and innuendo with some actual facts that support your reasoning?

Whats the big uproar..???
I can hardly wait to see a couple of big bad-ass Marines kissing and hugging in the next parade, maybe even some serious ass grabbing, and some cutey sailors smooching it up at the next Army/Navy game.... its gonna be a blast.....:palm:

It's a little disconcerting to see that you consider such things titillating.

Maybe there are some gay porn sites you could go to, if that's what you want to see.

Do hetrosexuals get to "flaunt" their preferences, in the military?

Soooo...it's an "exciting experience" for you to watch two men in uniform hug and kiss and "grabbing ass" with each other...

I think mojo had it right about you the first time.

Kind of surprised the Scott Brown came out for it. He was under a lot of pressure from the Republican leadership to refuse anything until tax cuts. This would've obviously killed any legislative change of DADT for at least two years, and since I doubt that moderate Republicans and Democrats are going to form a supermajority together in 2014, it probably would've been more like a decade or longer.

After being rejected by Republicans in 2010, I don't think Murkowski felt a lot of loyalty to them, so she just voted for what was right.

How will they flaunt it anymore than the hetrosexuals? I doubt they will act any different than they already do, most are highly trained professional soldiers.

You obviously think that there are no marines kissing and hugging other marines, or sailers smooching other sailers.

Not much will change except they won't be kicked out for getting caught doing it.

I think it was twofold, wanting their names in the yeah column in this history making legislation and also not wanting it thrown in their faces at election time!

The Republicans who voted for it deserve a hand:

Scott Brown, of Massachusetts; Susan M. Collins and Olympia J. Snowe, both of Maine; Mark Kirk of Illinois; Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and George Voinovich of Ohio

Joe Manchin, the only Democrat to vote against repeal last week, didn't vote today.

I really want to know why this doesn't have more support amongst the Republican leadership? Not even a majority of Republicans support DADT. The minority of the minority shouldn't be deciding our policy. The tip of the tail shouldn't be wagging the rest of the tail and the dog.

Well, I read what you suggested, but all I see is a bunch of gay people who are elated this is finally being passed. I don't see any argument on why or how it makes the military stronger or better. Polls don't really matter much to me on this, I don't base my viewpoints on the polls. As I said, I thought DADT was a pretty smart way to handle this issue, when Clinton proposed it. I would have also passed Don't Know, Don't Care! But, that's just me. The military serves a specific function for all of America, and the paramount importance in this debate, is what makes our military function and perform its best, because nothing else is as important as this. Here, we have allowed Liberal sentiment, our emotional feelings for the plight of the gay service member, to dictate our policy. To what advantage has it served our military? I see nothing it can do positively for our military, I see plenty of negatives, but we shall see. Perhaps we live in a new era, where this just isn't a big deal to the younger generation who are serving, and there will be no problems?

..................Is it just me, or hasn't the sailor's uniform ALWAYS looked queer?

Well Dixie, all I want is to do what THE PEOPLE want.

I thought that's what you were for? THE PEOPLE, right or wrong, dammit. That's what you were screaming last November. What made you change your mind? Surely it wasn't the fact that you found out that its opinion isn't aligned with yours here?

And exactly how am I gonna see "the reaction of other soldiers, sailors, marines and even the reactions of foreign countries...." by going to a porn site?

Are you truly that fuckin' ignorant?
Has reading comprehension always been a big problem with you ? Even after words have been explained to you?

We get that you tried to post an insult and it bombed. I have yet to see any of those who oppose the repeal of DADT give any real reasons it shouldn't be repealed.
