This election is about hope

Wow, you are really dedicated to this. How is it that you are always here exactly when he or she posts?

because he's the same guy.....actually, he's approximately half the people on the board....we're just not sure which half.....he may be Watermark, if I could only remember who Watermark is now.....

Wasn't the the LAST election about hope and change? Giv e up on the change part, did you - because there hasn't been any. What about the promise of transparency? Or dealing with Gitmo? Illegal surveillance of personal communications? Bipartisanship and reaching across the aisle? (Since when does "do it our way or get out of the way" count as "bipartisan"?)

I do have to give credit where credit is due. You said "We're going to change how things are done in Washington" and that you did, passing legislation with unconstitutional provisions to buy votes from your own senators, pork bribes as have never been seen before, outright in-your-face blackmail, and any other illegal, immoral, and illicit means you could come up with. You sure changed how things are done, alright. Can't say it brings much hope, though.

So what are we hoping for this time? That you can hang on tooth and toenail for two more years worth of "change" that fucks the people like a cheap slut in a porn movie?

Less than two years in office and delivered a health care plan.

That's our man!!

what do you like about the h/c plan?

so as to not get him started he has answered that question numerous times on here. He wants universal coverage and thus believes this is an excellent start towards that. And since Obama did what many previous Presidents couldn't he does his Canadian version of flaming/trolling with the Go Obama cheerleading posts.

For starters young adults who are in school or unemployed and living with their parents are covered on their parent's plan. Where is an unemployed 20-something supposed to get the money for health insurance? Having neither a job nor collateral an unattended illness can affect their entire life.

Recommended preventative services such as screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. The savings down the road are truly incalculable. Just consider the cost to look after one individual incapacitated by a stroke due to undiagnosed hypertension compared to a doctor's visit costing, say, $100.00.

Assisted living/retirement homes for those unable to look after themselves easily costs $100.00/day. Just for simplicity let's say the incapacitated person finds a residence at that cost. For the same amount of money spent to look after that individual for one day someone could visit a doctor. That's 365 people screened per year. If the person lives 10 years which is quite realistic that's 3,650 (not counting leap years) people who could be screened and avoid a stroke.

What better example is there of "promote the general Welfare and secure the Blessings of Liberty"?

Of course there are many other benefits to the plan and it will be further fine-tuned as more and more citizens experience the benefits.

Hardly flaming/trolling. The health plan has to have the time to take effect meaning Obama has to stay. Once the benefits come on line the citizens will fight to keep them. The Repubs know that. That's why the urgency to take control of government. The Repubs know time is of the essence. Once the plan really takes off the discussion will be over.

This election is about kids screaming the toyshop down because they want Christmas today and they dont like the dress on the barbie doll.
There is no logic in the way the US lives according to polls and sound bites.
Why cant you just let one of the best hopes you've ever had complete his term and THEN judge him if you feel qualified to do so. I would seriously doubt that anyone on this board is deserving of a seat on the bench.

Yeah, because whenever a party is out of power it's never urgent to want to get back into power.

by "having time to take effect" you mean, we need to collect several years worth of taxes before we dare spend a years worth of expenses.....

Yeah, because whenever a party is out of power it's never urgent to want to get back into power.

Let's just say it's a bit more pressing now because the Repubs know they'll never change health care once it's established. There is not one instance where a government comprehensive health care plan has been dismantled. Not one.

Once the citizens experience the benefits and realize the Republican opposition to health care was riddled with lies and deception it will be a different ball game.

The Repubs are digging a deeper and deeper hole for themselves. First trying to privatize SS and now the nonsense with health care.

If Obama and the Dems can hold on there will be plenty of change and hope. Just two years into his mandate and already a health care plan. Let's see what he'll do over the next two years and if he plays his cards right another four years after that.

(Excerpt) Throughout America’s history, there have been some years that simply rolled into the next without much notice or fanfare. Then there are the years that come along once in a generation – the kind that mark a clean break from a troubled past, and set a new course for our nation.

This is one of those years......(2009)

This crisis did not happen solely by some accident of history or normal turn of the business cycle, and we won’t get out of it by simply waiting for a better day to come, or relying on the worn-out dogmas of the past. We arrived at this point due to an era of profound irresponsibility....

That is not the country I know, and it is not a future I will accept as President of the United States.....

In the process, we will put Americans to work in new jobs that pay well and can’t be outsourced – jobs building solar panels and wind turbines; constructing fuel-efficient cars and buildings; and developing the new energy technologies that will lead to even more jobs, more savings, and a cleaner, safer planet in the bargain.....To give our children the chance to live out their dreams in a world that’s never been more competitive, we will equip tens of thousands of schools, community colleges, and public universities with 21st century classrooms, labs, and libraries............Yes, we’ll put people to work repairing crumbling roads, bridges, and schools by eliminating the backlog of well-planned, worthy and needed infrastructure projects.

That’s why I’m calling on all Americans – Democrats and Republicans – to put good ideas ahead of the old ideological battles; a sense of common purpose above the same narrow partisanship; and insist that the first question each of us asks isn’t “What’s good for me?” but “What’s good for the country my children will inherit?” (End)

Doesn't a speech like that just curl your toes? :)

The old, tired, worn-out ideas and the ideology that incubated them is like a vampire continually rising up. On election day the Dems have to drive that proverbial stake right through the heart of the Repub party and put that ideology to rest, once and for all.

Well considering the number of Democrats running against the health care bill and the current poll numbers for many Democrats in their re-election bids it seems pretty obvious not everyone shares your enthusiasm for it. Of course maybe if Obama could hire you to tell everyone all the wonderful benefits this bill is about to bring the polls might be different?

And I am laughing my American *ss off at your Canadian fear of Americans having the option of putting 4% of their S.S. money in a personal account. I mean people cannot be trusted with that option. Don't us Americans know the worlds economy might collapse if we trust people with that type of choice?

by "having time to take effect" you mean, we need to collect several years worth of taxes before we dare spend a years worth of expenses.....

The reason for that is the health care package has to be "self-supporting", the Repubs didn't want a deficit. Remember the CBO reviewing the cost?

Let's use purchasing a home as an analogy. One can pay the full price cash or take a mortgage. The mortgage technically is a deficit, however, it is a deficit that is beneficial. It is wiser to take a mortgage rather than rent and try to save sufficient money to pay cash for a house.

The same principal applies to health care. The taxes collected in the years leading up to the plan are like saving for a down payment. Once the plan takes effect, once a person moves into their home, the benefits start.

As time passes rents increase as a person's mortgage decreases. Similarly, as time passes medical procedures will increase in price, however, there will be far fewer as people will have had screenings for common illnesses and taken the necessary medication/precautions.

Every year the costs will decrease as illnesses are detected earlier resulting in less expensive, necessary medical procedures. This has been shown in every country with a medical plan. The reason those countries spend less is diseases are caught earlier. Also, when diseases are diagnosed earlier people have a greater life expectancy which is also shown in statistics.

In all honesty what is there to debate? There is not ONE example opponents can point to. That's why, once Obama-care comes on-line, everyone knows there will be no turning back. The discussion will be terminated.

Instead of coming together like past generations did to build a better country for our children and grandchildren, their argument is that we should let insurance companies go back to denying care for folks who are sick, or let credit card companies go back to raising rates without any reason.

Instead of setting our sights higher, they’re asking us to settle for a status quo of stagnant growth and eroding competitiveness and a shrinking middle class.

That is not the America I know.

That is not the America we believe in.

A lot has changed since those final days of the last election, but what hasn’t is the choice facing this country.

It’s still fear versus hope; the past versus the future.

It’s still a choice between sliding backward and moving forward.

That’s what this election is about.

That’s the choice you will face in November.

Now, we have a different vision for the future.

A vibrant free market, but one that works for everybody.

That’s our vision.

That's our vision for a stronger economy and a growing middle class, and that’s the difference between what we and Republicans in Congress are offering the American people right now.

Let me give you a few specific examples of our different approaches.

I proposed some additional steps to grow the economy and help businesses spur hiring.

One of the keys to job creation is to encourage companies to invest more in the United States.

But, for years, our tax code has actually given billions of dollars in tax breaks that encourage companies to create jobs and profits in other countries.

I want to change that.

Instead of tax loopholes that incentivize investment in overseas jobs, I’m proposing a more generous, permanent extension of the tax credit that goes to companies for all the research and innovation they do right here in the United States of America.

I’m proposing that all American businesses should be allowed to write off all the investment they do in 2011, and this will help small businesses upgrade their plants and equipment, and will encourage large corporations to get off the sidelines and start putting their profits to work.

Now, to most of you, I'll bet this just seems like common sense.

But not to Mr. Boehner and his allies.

For years, Republicans have fought to keep these corporate loopholes open.

In fact, when Mr. Boehner attacked us for closing a few of these loopholes and using the money to help keep hundreds of thousands of teachers and cops and firefighters on the job, Mr. Boehner dismissed these jobs we saved, teaching our kids, patrolling our streets, rushing into burning buildings, as “government jobs”, jobs I guess he thought just weren’t worth saving.

I couldn’t disagree more.

I think teachers and police officers and firefighters are part of what keeps America strong.

I think if we’re going to give tax breaks to companies, they should go to companies that create jobs in America, not that create jobs overseas.

That’s one difference between the Republican vision and the Democratic vision.

That’s what this election is all about.
