Why do I have to explain to supposed adults they should, if possible, pay their bills? Borrowing money is not "free money." It usually ends up costing you far more than it would have to just pay the bills.
I am not totally against borrowing, but it should be done carefully... Or at least out of desperation.
We are told that this is a "golden age", but at the same time trump has ramped up the deficit to the highest point outside of emergencies. As a percent of the GDP it was higher in WWII, but we were fighting for the survival of the free world. As an absolute number, it was higher during the pandemic, but things were bad then. Why does trump need so much extreme stimulus if he has a great economy?
Or maybe we do have a disaster going on which needs extreme stimulus. Maybe that disaster is called trump.
So we have a deficit that is probably at $2.4 trillion. trump is predicting that it will go down a lot, but realistically it will probably go up to $3.4 trillion. he wants to add $700 billion tariff subsidy, and suspend all payroll taxes $1.8 trillion(or higher if he is willing to go after state payroll taxes). So we are talking about about a $5.9 trillion deficit.
That would be a deficit of almost 20%. That is almost enough to fight WWII.
Think about this for a minute....
Think about how much destruction your plan would create.
Here is a way to reduce that destruction. We could replace payroll taxes with higher taxes on the wealthy who do not pay much in payroll taxes. What do you say?
