With Biden, the MSM downplayed, or outright ignored, what was happening at the Border and with illegal immigration in the hopes that the issue wouldn't be important come the 2024 election. They failed and it was one reason, but hardly the only one, that Harris / Biden wasn't reelected. The public could see what was going on and the major negative impact it was having nationwide.
Now, with Trump the script has been flipped by the MSM who are attacking ICE and enforcement of immigration law. To do this they have largely, if not entirely, focused on Leftist run, Leftist populated, part of one city, Minneapolis. Radical Leftist agitators, thugs, professional protesters, and the like have poured into Minneapolis and started their usual 24/7 violent rioting against ICE operations there.
If you look at a map--Google maps is your friend--virtually ALL of the protesting in Minneapolis is centered in an area about 2 x 1 miles in size bounded by I 94 to the North, I 35W to the west, Highway 55 to the East with an occasional spill over between there and the Mississippi river, and E 35th St. to the South. EVERY video, photo, or other story on the violent rioting in Minneapolis takes place within that area.
This might be a good example of what that area is like politically:

That's it that two (2) square mile area in one not-so-big US city in one state is driving the narrative on the MSM right now. Two days ago, ICE and DHS raided 15 locations of Zipp's Sports Grills in Phoenix, the 5th largest city in the US. They arrested about two dozen people. One location was at University Drive and Mill Ave in Tempe right off the ASU campus. The Left mustered maybe 100 people to protest this. The local cops were out in force to make sure they stayed peaceful. That story got zero national news play.
Instead, the MSM was focused on the false narrative that a peaceful protester--who it turns out was a repeat violent protester--was shot and killed by ICE in that 2 x 1 square mile area of Minneapolis while violently protesting. Control of the narrative is critical for the Left. Without it, they can't accomplish anything whatsoever. They don't have the numbers or popularity without creating fictions about how evil their opposition is. That's what they're doing again with ICE enforcement.
The MSM has been PROPERLY FOCUSED on Trump, the fuck up, and the incompetent managers he appointed to carry out his fascistic orders.

I would agree that Trump picked a target in Minnesota and Minneapolis that maximized violent, radical, Leftist rage in both exposing the rampant, systematic, fraud going on there along with going in to arrest illegal aliens in that state.
The violent, radical, Left just couldn't help themselves and they showed up in mass to do what they do best, continuous violent rioting. It's also interesting that like 90% of the violent rioting in Minneapolis is occurring within a roughly 2 x 2 square mile area of the city.
It's what happens when you go too far. Shifting the extremism in a new, wrong direction, as toward Iran, might not help him. The reaction is apt to be, "there he goes again - the guy is out of control."

It has nothing to do with Obama, but it does in part have something to do with Biden.
Biden and his autopen administration roughly doubled the number of illegal aliens in the US in four years. Crime shot up as a result (and no, don't even pull that canard about murder rates in isolation). The border for all intents was wide open.
ICE under Trump has been tasked with removing these illegals starting primarily those with criminal records or charges against them. ICE is generally operating with warrants. They have probable cause because they have warrants. For those arrested simply--and only--for a first-time violation of immigration law, the case is often handled as a quasi-crime in civil court, like a serious traffic ticket. Due process in those cases is a brief hearing before an immigration judge who adjudicates the case immediately. If found deportable, you are deported and cannot reenter the US for 10 years. No fine, no jail time.
What I see is ICE and DHS serving warrants on people with said criminal records, charges against them pending resolution, and those with orders of deportation already adjudicated. I also see some illegals trying to game the system by doing things like asking for an asylum hearing after being ordered deported. This is an attempt to delay deportation, often by years, because of the court's backlog. The asylum claim is often on the most dubious grounds.
Here in Arizona, where I live, about one or two restaurant chains a month now--mostly local ones--are being hit with ICE / DHS raids, with warrants, that arrest dozens of illegals (most without any serious criminal background), along with the owners / management, and other illegals they are colluding with to do human trafficking, tax evasion, evasion of wage and labor laws, and the like to keep their operating costs way down. I'm all in favor of that.
The radical Left turns up in small numbers to protest and it usually doesn't come to blows. There was one incident about a month ago in Tucson where a 3 restaurant tacoria chain got busted and the violent, radical, Left showed up to protest. Several got arrested and the local congress critter, Adelita Grijalva, one of the most radical Leftists in the House, was present and got nuked by pepper gas because she wanted to start shit with the ICE officers. They had warrants. They were doing their job correctly. Then the goddamned radical, violent, Left showed up and things turned into the usual shit show, just as they've been in Minneapolis.
