American workers and the work place are in big trouble.

According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, employers announced 153,074 job cuts in October, a 175% rise from the 55,597 cuts announced in October 2024. The industries with the most cuts were warehousing, technology, retail and the service sector.

“Over the last decade, companies have shied away from announcing layoffs in the fourth quarter, so it’s surprising to see so many in October,” added Challenger.

In October 2003, 171,874 cuts were recorded nationwide.

The number of job cuts will keep racking up, and will be quite bad by election day.
I don’t think Trump can stay in office that long

The whole Republican Party smells trumps blood in the water

The sharks are begining to circle lead by the likes of MTG

Trumpers?

Soon they will have to pick a new great leader

It will be very entertaining

There are over 2 million unfilled trade jobs in the US right now. The problem isn't a lack of jobs, or layoffs, it's a lack of people willing to work.

There's almost 8 million unfilled jobs total. Again, the problem isn't job openings, it's lack of people that are willing to take those jobs.

So, Starkey's claims are cherry picked rubbish when you look at the entire jobs picture.

The problem isn't a lack of jobs. It is a lack of people willing to work.

End open ended welfare programs, institute work and education requirements, and make people get off their lazy asses and get a job.

Do you realize what you said?
" There are over 2 million unfilled trade jobs in the US right now. " yes unfilled trade jobs, a " trade job " is a plumber, electrician. tool and die maker people like that.
It takes YEARS , normally 4 years of an Apprenticeship to become one of these people and right now there are getting to be fewer and fewer kids wanting to put the work into going to school for 4 years and into the trades , even if they are paying 45 /50/ 55 dollars an hour.
Why I don't know but very few kids are willing to put in that type of work to become a tradesmen.
I was an industrial electrician and have been trying to get several kids interested in becoming an electrician and telling them how much they make an hour and still they for some reason are not interested in that type of work.
And there will be a lot of skilled trade jobs open till we can change their minds.

Because lots of kids need as much money now as they can get

They are adding to the family expenses to keep the family afloat

Okay, get fucking busy! Hire on as an apprentice. There are plenty of great apprenticeships available.

Many companies have apprentice programs that offer great pay and benefits.

I already mentioned the problem: An unwillingness to work. You even agree:

...fewer and fewer kids wanting to put the work into going to school for 4 years and into the trades , even if they are paying 45 /50/ 55 dollars an hour.

The way you change minds is stop telling kids in school they must go to college to get ahead. Bring back vocational and trade classes into schools.

The one grandkid that went into trades out of high school is already at 20 driving a Lexus, has a nice apartment, a 401K, money saved, and is getting ahead. He installs those massive like 50 tap beer machines, the automatic coffee machines at convenience stores, and the like.

Most Apprenticeships pay people to learn a trade, so they could be adding to paying the families expenses.
And they usually get paid very good.

Working a skilled trade pays way more than most entry level college degree jobs do. They also pay better down the road and are more stable.

That's someone's choice, not something they're forced into.

I will add, that anyone on any sort of government welfare program should be mandatorily required to work and maintain a job or show they are progressing in an education program to graduate with an employable degree or skill. If they don't or won't, they can go fucking hungry.

Hay, ASSHOLE, I have posted on here many many times I am a RETIRED Industrial electrician, and put almost 40 years at work at one of the " big three " auto companies..
And I did say Many companies have apprentice programs that offer great pay and benefits and that the kids now a days don't want to put the work in to becoming a tradesmen even it they get paid to go through an apprentice program and normally they pay pretty good when they are in an apprentice program/

Then offer them a job

Then mention that if they like the work they can make more as they climb the knowledge latter in the field

A job right now

That’s more compelling

A job in which you can learn how to fix your own home even if you decide to not pursue it as a career

The typical persons image of those jobs is hard and demeaning work

They don’t understand how interesting and rewarding these jobs are

All their lives they have imagined a desk type job

How would I " offer them a job " ?
As I said I worked at an auto company as an industrial electrician for almost 40 years and I am now retired .
Yes desk jobs that may pay about half of what a skilled trade job does IF that much.

I spent some time in the South.

Yes, there are good jobs. And a lot of the people don't want to retrain for them.

They won't accept that life changes and they must if they wish to get ahead.

If your job offer cant compete with something that better meets their current needs enough to sign them up guess what that means?

You need to make better offers to humans
