Sure but my reply on this topic was never solely to you. If you look it is only the magats suggesting that Trump may be pulling some kind of 4D chess move, while not taking the time to do minor investigation as to why that is not the case here.

Just because what you say may be true at times does not mean it is a default answer always. But there is NO DENYING that magats want to keep that option open in their mind and do not care if it is ever tested. Thus if Mamdani did win (he did) they have it as comfort for themselves that this was maybe part of Trumps grand plan.

Again, that belief, even if you did not form it intentionally, and just formed subconsciously is a coping mechanism for MANY magats as it creates the following paradigm for them to accept:

- Cuomo wins with Trump support = Trump influence and win
- Cuomo fails with Trump Support = 4D chess as he wanted Mamdani to win and knew giving his support to Cuomo would trigger that

That you belate this point, which is so obvious and true, i think has triggered you as you do not want to accept you may be impacted, subconsciously by this desire.

In this case with Trump, this simply did not hold any water with the slightest evaluation of what Trump was actually supporting.

Unlike with Schiff and his donors supporting the person he wanted to win knowing they were very beatable, Trump and his supporters were backing Cuomo. So that alone excludes any possibility Trump and his surrogates were playing any 4d game to help Mamdani win.

There is a whole line of misunderstanding in this discussion. The idea that someone as unpopular as Trump endorsing someone in a blue City like NYC probably helps his opponent, isn't a Trumpism. That's just politics. Nor is that statement stating in any way that is the reason Mamdani won.

I wasn’t saying it flipped votes per se, rather his endorsement isn’t exactly an asset in NYC.

Living in San Francisco, I see how this game gets played. No Republicans run for office here, so every mayoral election I pick who seems most pragmatic. While Democratic candidates won’t openly appeal to Republican voters, they sometimes do it in subtle ways because the goal is to get the most votes possible. But they also have to be careful not to overdo it.

In this race, the lines were already drawn between establishment and socialist candidates. If it had been two establishment candidates though Trump’s endorsement could have had more of an effect, most likely negative.
