COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a break from the state's racist legacy, South Carolina Republicans overwhelmingly chose Nikki Haley, an Indian-American woman, to run for governor and easily nominated Tim Scott, in line to become the former Confederate stronghold's first black GOP congressman in more than a century.

SC GOP State Senator Calls Nikki Haley a "Rag Head"

A longtime South Carolina state Senator with a reputation for blunt language used the term “raghead” to describe Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley and President Obama during an appearance on a political talk show Thursday.

Haley is of Indian-American descent.

State Sen. Jake Knotts, who backs Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer in the four-way Republican primary battle, made the remark during an interview on “Pub Politics,” a popular online political talk show in Columbia.

“We already got one raghead in the White House, we don’t need a raghead in the governor’s mansion,” Knotts said, according to multiple people present for the broadcast.

Here in CO, we have Ryan Frazier running for Congress against Perlmutter, we have Pauline Olivera running for the State House, we had Ali Hassan running for Treasurer, unfortunately he should have run for the state house he had no experience and was defeated at the State Assembly... there are women running everywhere, even black ones... shocker I know Cypress..

I think Cypress was one of those people who are always pointing out how "white and male" crowds are... It's good to see that things are changing.
 
Four generations of people in my family until me were born in Charleston which is where Tim Scott was born so I have a soft spot in my heart for him.

And Yurt it is good news for the GOP but the party still has a lot of work to do as far as attracting more blacks and other minorities into the party. This alone is not going to do it.
 
LOL when you have to roll out the token black guy in an election where a few hundred people voted. Hey Yurtsie, tell me about the black republican caucus????

i never thought this alone would attract more minorities, it is a step and it really doesn't help the dems oft repeated lies of racism....see topsping calling him a token black....it is the dems who focus so much on skin color, not repubs
