Why is BP taking all the blame?

witchhunt??? BP has already taken responsibility, why are you calling them liars? ultimately the other co's involved may be found liable, but for now, BP is the face of the oil rig

stop being such a pansy about it, people lives were lost, the environment destroyed and you're whining because the company is only 40% british, with 40% US...i call bullshit on your worldwide perception

There were finagled into it, there has been no enquiry just an old fashioned crucifixion by media. Point of information, BP is 40% British and 39% US owned.

167 people were killed on Piper Alpha yet nobody was held to account for that, they weren't even poor brown people unlike Bhopal. I very much doubt that you've even heard about it though?

Oh nooeees... Dude, Americans own bits of almost every publicly traded corporation around the planet. There is no weird association with our national identity to a company. They are just another company regardless of who owned it. Even if American Express failed like this they'd get a heaping helping of pay up handed to them...

well fuck me...39% to my claim of 40%....shit, damn dude, my bad....

i don't care if they were pressured into it, they didn't have to cave to pressure, unless obama threatened contracts....face it, your precious BP knows they fucked up, the CEO has been apologizing all over the place...apparently you believe he is a liar

you can't win dude and this is really embarrassing

Because there used to be "British" in the name, man.

It's just another weird excuse to attempt to make the US into some bad guy for holding a corporation responsible for their horrible malfeasance...

BP does not have any solely operated rigs in the Gulf, the common factor here is Transocean which is the major player, both in the Gulf and worldwide. The US is the bad guy, why else did Transocean move their HQ to Zug in Switzerland?

And when and if we find them to be at fault they'll get a heaping helping of pay up too.

Quit your bellyaching! What are you? French?

BP had 760 safety violations in the past five years and paid $373 million in fines, Sullivan said. By contrast, Sunoco and ConocoPhillips each had eight safety violations and ExxonMobil just one, Sullivan said.

why would anyone defend that ^

What make me laugh is that you are a lawyer, yet are seemingly unaware of the how somebody might say something which they don't really believe. You can't really be that niave, can you?

I work for a well known mobile phone company, so you are wrong about that and also wrong about how we perceive the nasty parochial vitriol emanating from the US. You really should be more circumspect especially considering the financial oil spill that has emanated from "American investment banks" aka Wall Street casinos that have fucked the entire world.

I think that there is a witch hunt going on and the US has no understanding of how they are perceived worldwide.

While I agree that there are way to many people, who have already decided that this was the fault of BP being uncaring and careless.
On the other hand, I seem to remember a whole lot of "witch hunts" emanating fom your side of the pond, over the Iraq war.

i'm not a lawyer, i'm a highschool student studying british history and my teacher said britons are whiners

and btw...i know a lawyer and he tells me that they were under oath....hmmm, guess a concept you don't understand, a wee thing called perjury....

perhaps he should be brought up on perjury charges for his repeated apologies, thanks for the tip

lol...tom keeps avoiding this

If you are trying to tell me that Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and AIG are not American, well you are really struggling. Maybe that's how it's perceived in the US but over here we see things differently, BP is still thought of as a British multi-national which is a major player for UK pension funds and private investors. You have already caused the biggest financial crisis since WW2 and now seem intent on finishing the job. I would like someone to address your addiction with oil and suggest how to wean yourselves off it.

How many oil wells does Great Britian have locally or just off shore??

Different responsibilities.

That's like saying that the left was blaming Bush more than Al Qaeda for the attack on 9/11...

Who blamed Bush for the 9/11 attacks other than a lunitic fringe who said it was set up...

It did not take him 30 days this time, so I doubt it would next time.
No, it took him 58 days and counting. Stumbling around, his Admiral is out stopping barges from sucking up oil so he can count fricking life vests...

Geebus. It does appear the COWATK (pronounced 'coe-wat', the K is silent, stands for Committee On Whose Ass To Kick) finally figured out that BP was a good target.

You are such a hater...

In fact you are the opposit of anyone who treats President Obama as if he were a messiah, President Obama is your devil.

Come on, tuns of things have been done inthe last 58 days.

Ugh, conservatives. They advocate willy nilly oil drilling then attack the Democratic president because what we knew was true, not much can be done about a spill like this!
