Sarah Palin: Marijuana Policy Reformer?
by Mike Meno

Sarah Palin says she doesn’t support making marijuana legal, but during an appearance on Fox Business News this weekend, she agreed with fellow panelist Ron Paul that police have better things to do than arrest nonviolent marijuana offenders.

Check out the video and read her comments below:

“I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts. And if somebody is going to smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody else any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and clean up some of the other problems we have in society that are appropriate for law enforcement to do and not concentrate on such a, relatively speaking, minimal problem that we have in the country.”

A few months back, MPP offered the former Alaska governor $25,000 to give a speech to supporters of a regulated marijuana market, but she did not accept the offer. When she ran as the Republican nominee for vice-president in 2008, Palin admitted to using marijuana in her youth but said she opposed making marijuana because of the “message” it would send to her children. At the time, MPP issued a statement saying, “That she used marijuana is no big deal, but what is a big deal is that she thinks that the 100 million Americans who have used marijuana, including herself, belong in jail. That wouldn’t be good for her kids.”

What’s frustrating about this is seeing, once again, a prominent politician acknowledge the ridiculousness of marijuana prohibition but not have the courage to call for its end. If Gov. Palin truly believes in the limited government she so often promotes, she should not only acknowledge that the government’s war on marijuana users is an enormous infringement on American civil liberties, but more importantly, that it needs to stop.

We’ve already seen one prospective 2012 presidential candidate, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, clearly voice his support for making marijuana legal. Will others follow?

The war on drugs is genocide. Prohibition is a killer.

Sounds like Palin's position is exactly the same as mine on this issue. I do not favor "legalization" of marijuana, I think there are too many inherent problems with that, and it's not a very wise thing for our society to embark upon. However, I do favor "decriminalization" of marijuana, making it NOT a crime to possess or grow for personal use.

I can live with that big time, I'll vote for Sarah on a drill safely baby (not like Obama does) and decrim pot and free up our cops for the thugs and rapist/sexual prediters

I respect your opinion, but you can't tell a person that they can't enjoy their God given right. In their own home or on their own property.

And my position doesn't do that at all. Like I said, decriminalization would give you the right to grow and possess pot in your own home and on your own property. I draw the line at making marijuana a legal commercial product to be sold to consumers. I think that is boneheaded and not very wise, and I think a vast majority of Americans agree with me on that. Decriminalize it, make it to where cops can't harass and arrest people for holding a joint, or confiscate your property because you had a weed growing in your back yard, but we don't have to legalize something as a product to be sold to consumers, when we don't know what kind of inherent health risks may result. It's just stupid to do that, in my opinion.

Obama claimed to be for decrim, his position is almost the same as Dixie's. Except like the MMS clusterfuck Obama has done nothing to get decrim done and I suppose another million people are in jail under his watch. Which is sad being that he smoked plenty and is on record saying "he inhailed a lot, that was the point"

INHAIL DON'T JAIL!!!

Palin does not call for ending marijuana's illegal status, only in it NOT being a priority for law enforcemnet when being used in the privacy of your own home. She is still against the illegal sale of marijuana. She still sees it as a drug that causes harm.

That dope-heads that jump from personal use in ones home is not a priority for enforcement to she is supportive of legalization or she thinks it is no big deal is specious.

I bet the Great Leader couldn't even pass a piss test.

I didn't know who she was prior to her getting on the ticket

She's 1,000 times better than Obama on energy.
Get a successfull woman who knows energy, if she committed to decrim she'd earn the youth vote away from Obama. And they say people vote attractive to a certain extent, she rocks there.

If we're talking about pot, I'm not for the legalization of pot.

I think that would just encourage our young people to think that it was OK to go ahead and use it.

However, I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts. If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society.

LMAO... You probably didn't even know who Palin was until McCain nominated her! This is an old liberal trick... "I used to be a Republican until I saw the light!" It's designed to persuade others that it's okay to abandon ship... like you did... Don't be afraid to change your mind and oppose Palin, really, it's okay if you do that, I did it... see? I said I did, that means it's true!

I know it's frustrating to see how much Palin resonates with the people, and I know it scares the bejesus out of you liberals, the thought of what this woman could mean for your ideological future... and I can understand why you had rather employ these tricks and tactics instead of facing her on the issues, but really... no one is buying it anymore, the jig is up!

Again, I do respect your opinion. But if you don't find a way to bring down the cost, drug cartels will thrive. Bullets will go off in neighborhoods where children, etc. are playing, our judges, and cops will be on the take, and our prisons will have to make room for people who haven't victimized anyone. Which means they will have to let victimizers out of jail to make room.

I could go on, but the main point is to do away with the drug cartels, and gangs.

For one thing, I'm an anti-marxist. Which means I don't vote for dems, or reps.

Secondly, I didn't start voting until I heard that there was a party that advocated following our constitution. Which means I haven't changed my mind.

Thirdly, Palin is a Marxist. Plain and simple. A Marxist politician is worst than a serial killing pedophile.

She maybe better than Obama, but that isn't saying much.

All it does is ensure that there is no regulation whatsoever on whom it is sold to. There was a reason that it was easier for me to get cocaine in HS than beer (never did cocaine, just saying I knew who to go to and they weren't checking IDs), it was because the people selling it don't check IDs.

If you want to make it less abused, the first step is making it more difficult for kids who think they are impervious to consequences to get it...

palin has no more wish to ignore or decrim marijuana than richard nixon did. she's only using this to continue to hijack the TEA party movement.

SPOT ON!!

She's talking out one side of her face right now, but is all set to talk out the other side of her face later when she's speaking to some anti-pot group.
