Do you consider it a racial slure or pejorative to call President Obama "The Messiah"?
Do you consider it a racial slure or pejorative to call President Obama "The Messiah"?
and I say it is absurd to pretend it isn't.No... to say that people worship him as if he were the messiah has absolutely NO racial connotation.
It is absurd that you continue pretending it is racist.
Then why won't you answer my question? Would you refer to Obama as "The Messiah" to any of your African American friends or aquantences? No, I consider it a description of how many of his followers speak of him.
In what way? You've made no argument that would point out any racial connotation in that, and the only argument you made hoping to make a connection was shot down in one post.and I say it is absurd to pretend it isn't.
I did answer your question. I'll go find the link for you and put it here, then I'll save it just in case you mindlessly run around saying I never answered your question. Then why won't you answer my question? That's simply not true. I can't help it if you're ignoring the arguments I've made. Also the fact that you won't even attempt to answer my question is pretty damnig proof that I am right. In what way? Just face it, people talk about others "worshiping" political leaders all the time, it's even in popular culture. I even pointed out to you one instance (there are far more) where it was used in song to describe how people used to follow Bush brainlessly.
No, I consider it a description of how many of his followers speak of him.
I'll go back to the original thread and if you did, I'll apologize.I did answer your question. I'll go find the link for you and put it here, then I'll save it just in case you mindlessly run around saying I never answered your question.
Hey, Mott. Here's the link I promised. That's simply not true. I can't help it if you're ignoring the arguments I've made. Also the fact that you won't even attempt to answer my question is pretty damnig proof that I am right.
I thought it was obvious. I would and do. I also noted that you were simply wrong, people constantly talked about Bush and his "worshipers"... There is nothing racist about pointing out that you are trying to Deify your Glorious Leader. The attempt to draw the conversation down to this level of inanity is simply a different strawman, but one that's lost its straw. It's just a shirt with a few pieces of straw still in it, moldy from the rain.
BTW - Your misspelling make me wonder if you even know what the word means...
I consider it a description of how the people that hate him describe how many of his supporters speak of him.
The way I see it, the people that hate him are much much much more passionate about their hate for him than his supporters are about their support for him.
My apologies. You did respond. I was creating this thread when you did, which is why I did not see it.I'll go back to the original thread and if you did, I'll apologize.
But is that racially motivated is the question? I say it is and I say the fact that they have never said that "the Messiah" about a white leader is damning evidence to that fact.I consider it a description of how the people that hate him describe how many of his supporters speak of him.
The way I see it, the people that hate him are much much much more passionate about their hate for him than his supporters are about their support for him.
I don't "hate" him, that's silly. Were he not making crappy policy and bad decisions he'd definitely be a person I'd love to hang with, he seems funny and intelligent as well as quite personable. He just has an unfortunate lack of leadership skills, is unqualified (as exemplified by his horrid response to the Gulf), and a bit disingenuous in things like GITMO, rendition, wireless wiretapping, Afghan prisons, habeas corpus, and other things I disliked about Bush...I consider it a description of how the people that hate him describe how many of his supporters speak of him.

You can take this post, put my name on it, put it about at 2006, and people would be telling me how I "never criticized" blah, blah...Yep. This. Exactly.
I can be in a conversation & say something along the lines of "there are legit criticisms of Obama here" or "Obama definitely blew this aspect of things, however," and then go on to offer something that would hardly qualify as 'praise,' and get an immediate "bow down to your beloved messiah" in response.
It's a knee-jerk, hater reaction over 90% of the time - nothing more.
