People who protested were concerned about police brutality, and free speech - respectively. It's a lazy, dumb & inappropriate comparison to try to make it seem like Floyd was a "hero" to the left. It was about the issue, and about the cause.

I see that as more of a "remember what happened" sentiment. It's not highlighting the man's life or trying to elevate him as anything but a victim of what they saw as police brutality against an unarmed black man, which represented what they saw as a longtime pattern.
That's why people invoke his name. He's a symbol, not a hero.

Call him what you want, the effect was the same, if lessor in the case of Floyd. The difference was in how those that responded to Floyd's death versus Kirk's acted.
With Floyd, the Left went nuts and held violent coast-to-coast riots, looting, and destruction as usual. With Kirk, the Right held a wake and discussed how awful his death was.
