Gentile thought everyone would embrace socialism if leaders would couple it with the same kind of ecstatic, cheering nationalism that stadiums of World Cup crowds have when supporting their teams. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and others all agreed to their own individual successes.
The short answer to your question is that there is no substantive difference between fascism and socialism; only the marketing and terminology differ.
