I think there are absolutes in what's good and bad. Sure there are lots of grey areas too, but there are absolutes.
I think it's bad--even evil--that you and many others want to use government to force me to give up most or all of what I've worked for so you can have some of it. Being forced to give to others, particularly those that are undeserving, is wrong.
Consensus or majority rule often just becomes tyranny.
But you are happy to take mine. Go figure.

I will confess that I was shocked that the dark underbelly of this country was so widespread and so pernicious. I should have been paying closer attention, I guess. I am happy to have policy discussions with serious people. This election is not a policy election. There are certain values that I simply cannot abide. I am amazed at how many Americans happily embrace those values. Uneducated white men love Trump. Not in spite of his many flaws but BECAUSE of them. They don't want to admit this, but they it is absolute truth. They see Trump as a man who does whatever he wants, fucks whoever he wants, degrades the same people they hate, and represents their avatar for their failures. They want to be that guy. Toxic masculinity is actually massive insecurity masked as bravado. Trump is who they want to be. And if he is in charge, then they can be. Trump proposes a day of purge, where the cops can do whatever they want. We are shocked. They are drooling like it's supper time. Do I care about them? Yes, I suppose in the same way I care about everyone who has been victimized the widening wage/wealth gap. The problem is that they are picking a guy who cannot wait to make it worse. The people I do care about are the single mom who can't work because she can't afford day care. The guy who can't afford insulin. The transgender person who is marginalized and treated as a lesserr. The kid in school who has to hide under his desk because we can't take assault weapons out of the hands of crazy people. I apologize for the digression, but you are so right. It is about values. I find theirs outside the margins of what I consider in any way acceptable.
It is possible but it's going to hurt for a while. But very much worth it. We need to admit that it's over and get it done while it can be done peacefully. Because later that option will be off the table.

My issue is taking money from some to give to others who are too lazy, incompetent, etc., to bother to work and instead expect others to take care of them. Everyone pays into Social Security and you are getting your money back in that system--well, at least in theory. Medicare is the same way. You pay into that system while working. (FICA)
