Now, if this were the same thing. Trump would be selling the Bibles in the churches, after he had a group of Pharisees tell them that their Bible was "unclean" and therefore their salvation was "at risk", so they needed to buy one of these special Pharisee approved Bibles...
If all those things were true you'd have some equivalence. However, what is happening is Trump is selling a collector's item, not within a church, has not had anyone tell them without this particular purchase their salvation was in any way at risk, didn't require them to exchange money at an excessive rate difference from a Trump approved special in-church money changer in order to give him money in a form that he wanted it and didn't tell them they were buying it for any reason other than the one he meant it for...
Though, amazingly... calling some folks "fake christians" is a judgement that Christ himself said wasn't meant for you to make. Judge not, otherwise you will be judged in the same way you judged others...

Of course, the Antebellum dems in the South supported property rights. Slaves WERE property.
Republicans of that era were the progressives. They believed in government’s role to support growth in the country. Not the private secror’s. Government.
The South wanted to preserve status quo. The “traditional” way of life. A hallmark of conservatism.
