Rep. Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House

I think they will try and i think he will even try. BUt i also think if any thing comes up that requires him to speak or vote on anything abortion or same sex related he simply will not be able to withhold his bigotry and hate, as it runs that deep.

he is a leopard who cannot hide his spots.

My optimistic side says that no matter how much some of them, and Johnson, might want to, they won't DARE bring up an anti-abortion bill and/or one banning SSM. The smarter (R)s can see how well DeSantis and his stupid "War on Woke" campaign is not going. That crap doesn't fly nationwide except in little pus pockets here and there.

Anyone who watched Game of Thrones should know this is EXACTLY who Mike Johnson is except he chooses not to hide amongst the poor by dressing like them and instead dresses amongst the rich and powerful to court their support instead...

Like the High Septon Mike will speak in calm and measured ways but he is seeking power to criminalize gay marriage and the types and activities and sex he assumes only gays partake in. He wants to put mothers who have abortions, for ANY reason, including rape, incest or severe birth defect risking the mother's life, into work camps and force them to do hard labor, as punishment.

He is the worst of the worst religious zealots who is not content to live his own life according to his moral views but wants to seize as much State power to FORCE you to live to his morals.

It amazes me how the current Republican party wants to take the entire world back in time - I time when it was ok to be anti-minority, anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-abortion. The Republican party is anti-progress.

I love your optimism. I just think there's no limit to how low the Republican party will go in order to appeal the worst of human instincts.

Now, having said that - if the GOP does try to ban abortion or gay rights nationally - it will work to Democrats' advantage in upcoming elections. That's why there was no "red wave" in 2022. Americans are tired of medieval values.

OMG you are so stuck on stupid, you are irredeemable.

Should the Republican Impeachment hearings shake the confidence of just enough Dem's that Biden cannot survive an Impeachment in the House and Senate, the idea, YOU GUYS ARE PUSHING, that then Republicans must jump in to supply the votes to save Biden or the Republicans are to blame is just about one of the most base and stupid things you can suggest. It would be the same if Nancy Pelosi lost her conference's support.

That is NOT how things work or have EVER worked when the Majority has the power to keep their own leader in power but they lose the confidence of their own party.

If, as was the case before Mike Johnson, there is no support for a leader in the Majority and they cannot then put anyone in the speaker chair, some form of coalition gov't can be considered (happens in many other countries) where any of the fractured groups in the Republican party can approach the Dem's, offer some form of power share (committees, etc) in return for their support and votes.

That is NOT what McCarthy did. That is not what Johnson did, and thus they will only EXPECT votes from their own majority conference and not from the other side.

If bipartisan support from the Dems for McCarthy or anyone else then some form of bipartisan power share compromise MUST be on the table. The republicans never did that thus they got no Dem votes, AS IT SHOULD BE.

As it would be if Pelosi or Biden lost the confidence of their majority and needed Republican votes to save them.

LyingFish you really need to be less stupid and stop falling for every derp talking point.

So you are saying the dems screwed up their votes. Derp, derp, Derp.

Yup. Change and progress have always been easy boogeymen for older generations who romanticize everything they grew up with as perfect.

You see this in these threads, with many posters, lead by Terry demonizing each and every bit of progress and change as wish casting and unnecessary and wrong. There is nothing more predictable then their reactions, like 'old men shouting at clouds'.
And racial and ethnic change scares them more than any other thing. Republicans have known for decades they could play to those fears and weapoinize them in the various iterations of the 'Southern Strategy' they had considered but it was always considered too dangerous a road to go down. An all or none strategy that succeeded, resulting in tyranny, or failed destroying the Republican party.

That is where Trump has now taken the party and we can see that these two ends points are now really the options.

Yep, that "Southern Strategy" first used by Reagan in 1976 has worked for the GOP and has worked.. until the last 2 elections.

Nope. that is your reading comprehension issue again.

You need to be smarter or have someone smarter read the posts and explain them to you.

There was no real option presented to the Dems to vote for.

Johnson? The guy is a spaceshot and we're stuck with him.

Our illustrious Constitution created this dumpster fire of a government system.
Just enough checks and balances that we all get to die in gridlock. It's guaranteed.
Better than a king who spends too much of our tax money on pinky rings and poodle spa days, right?

We'll never again amend the constitution, I believe, because the process for doing so
will no longer be useful in our permanently polarized republic.

It's takes more consensus than this nation
will ever see again.

So we've got him for now, and we're not even looking at solutions to
change the paradigm that got us here.

He could end up being our third president named Johnson.
Am I missing one?

So you are saying the dems made some very bad decsions that led to Johnson becoming speaker. Derp, Derp, Derp.

Johnson was picked by Repubs. It is really that simple. McCarthy is an unprincipled person who wavers like crazy. He is like Trump in that regard. Gym Jordan is borderline insane. The MTG bparty offered nobody who would work across the aisle.

Let's face it .... ever since Obama won two Presidential elections, a lot of folk just ain't been right!

You just explained why the dems needed to keep his as House speaker.

Yup.

McCarthy refused to engage with the Dem and offer any type of Bipartisan compromise that would allow them to support him.

If they kept him in power with zero boundaries and no bipartisan compromise on power sharing, like happens in other countries, where two parties pick a leader, and which is what Matt Gaetz and the crazies demanded from McCarthy to give him their support the first time, then the Dems would own any terrible decisions McCarthy might do later.

All of the media would say to the Dems 'well you gave him that power with no boundaries and even his own right flank demandes the power to check him for their support'.

It simply is not a thing that any party will prop up and give unconditional support to the opponent as they then own his decisions and actions and are rightly blamed for it, if he abuses them.

That is NOT how things work or have EVER worked

actually I found out this time around that this is precisely how things have always worked......I thought the majority of Republicans choose their leader and the majority of Demmycrats choose theirs.....didn't know we had to get a majority of our party AND yours....

Yup.

it is just a stupid concept some Derps are pushing that Dems should have voted to keep McCarthy in power, when McCarthy lost the confidence in his own party and could not get the votes from his majority.

It would be like arguing if Nancy Pelosi lost the confidence of the Dem majority, during her time as Speaker, the republ'can's would be expected to step in and provide her bipartisan support to keep her in power.

It would be like arguing if Biden loses enough Dem support in these impeachment investigations that he can be impeached and removed, then republi'cans' should step in and provide him the votes to keep him in power.

No one with an ounce of brain power expects that would happen. WTF would the republi'cans' be even doing Impeachment Hearings, if they were successful, that then meant Republi'cans' needed to step up and save Biden???

BUt we have many stupid people like Lying Fish in this forum who think like that and thus think they are making a point when they are not.
