Scalise nominated Speaker

By a vote of 113 to 99 during a closed-door party meeting, Mr. Scalise turned back a challenge by Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee and a favorite of the hard right. His candidacy will now go to the House floor, where chaos reigned the last time Republicans tried to elect a speaker and the divisions in the party could make for another raucous election.

Giuliani, DeSantis, and Alioto are apparently not enough.

The fates decided that we need another one of our people to embarrass us.

Che vergogna. :palm:

I was hoping for Gym!

But I hear it’s unlikely they will get consensus today…

Scalise deserves it and he'll do a great job... but Jordan would have been awesome...

I see where you're going, TOP.

The good people of Ohio would understandably rather keep their perverts in DC.
As speaker, Shirtsleeves Jimmy would come home less often, right?

You need more like Dennis Kucinich, formerly from the 10th,
and fewer like Jim Jordan, currently from the 4th;
but that's for you folks to work out.:dunno:

He just won the Republican nomination, that’s different than actually getting elected speaker of the house. I hope they will vote him in this afternoon, but it’s not a foregone conclusion.

Yeah, I read it wrong. I think he'll win eventually, the problem now is how many want to vote for McCarthy.

Hopefully he won't have to give Gaetz a "one vote" to oust the speaker deal. That was stupid.

Hakeem Jeffries would’ve never done that, they should’ve voted for Hakeem Jeffries. If they’ve done that we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Right. Instead he wouldn't schedule votes that the majority would want. It's stupid to pretend your Ds would elect an R to fill that role when they had a slim majority. I get why republicans won't vote for Hakeem just like I get when they do have a vote and there are the two options that Democrats won't vote for the republicans. What I don't get is your Ds joining with Maga Republicans to oust a speaker who is only up for that vote because he worked with Democrats.

The Democrats voted with those evil "Maga Republicans" to punish the Speaker for working with Democrats. That vote was silly. It won't net them the Speaker role, all it did was ensure that the next Speaker is more likely to not want to work with Democrats as Democrats will just help the crazies "punish" him when they get the chance.

I hope it turns into another kindergarten spitwad fight,...
