The Census Bureau this month published its most robust estimate of the U.S. immigrant population, and it casts doubt on a central Republican criticism of President Joe Biden: that immigration has spiraled out of his control on his watch.
In fact, the*new data – analyzed by our team at the Cato Institute – indicate that the number of immigrants is still 2 million below the Census Bureau’s 2017 predictions. The hyperbolic rhetoric should take a backseat to the verifiable data.*
Take Stephen Miller, former adviser to President Donald Trump. By July 2022, he had already*announced*that President Biden had “eradicated his own nation’s borders.”
Of course, this is a goofy conspiracy theory. Borders divide governmental jurisdictions, which it should go without saying haven’t changed, and they have nothing to do with the number of people who cross them. But the new Census data make this claim laughable for another reason: The immigrant population had only risen marginally.

Immigrant share of U.S. population is just 13.9%
According to the American Community Survey (the Census Bureau’s annual mini-census), the immigrant share of the U.S. population rose just 0.3 percentage points between July 2021 and July 2022, reaching 13.9%.
If a shift of 0.3 percentage points can eradicate the United States as a country, the Trump administration must have left the United States in worse shape than anyone thought. Fortunately, it is the political rhetoric that is in worse shape, not the country.

I'm a big fan of CATO, have even donated to them in the past, and very much agree with their position on immigration reform and the need for more immigration. But from the perspective of this article they are giving data from 2021 to July 2022. What about the past 14 months? If the argument is the situation at the border has gotten far worse over the past year, how does showing data from prior to that time frame disprove it?

Is that legal immigration or does it include illegal immigration?

I would also question the CATO Institute's numbers. CBP and ICE say somewhere around 4 to 6 million illegals have come in under Biden. Yet CATO claims it's less than 2 million and closer to one. How is that rectified? Who's lying?

SILENCE, FOOL !! STOP TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS-HOLE ! People don't have time for your pathetic, statistical bullshit !

Everyone knows that Biden has intentionally flooded the US with somewhere between 7.5 and 8 (?), 9 (?) million , hairy-assed, Darkie, illegal immigrants from the Third World, and they are already in the process creating a massive violent/property crime/drug (fentanyl) -dealing wave of criminality. Moreover hey will soon start to cost the tax-payer Billions of dollars/per annum in Welfare benefits/programs/schemes/SNAP/ public housing and free medical care, plus bilingual teaching. And guess who the suckers are that will be slugged the hardest for the costs of all this? The poor white bastards in the working/middle-classes working their butts off 9 to 5 , Monday to Friday - THAT'S WHO !

It's a f**king disgrace, and it's dick-heads like YOU that voted for it. I hope you're pleased.

Maybe because it hasn't gotten far worse (except in the far right wings delusional minds).

Far right media has used the immigration debate as a campaign tool for 30 years and we all know how they lie and foment bullshit conspiracy theories.

Appears “dach” has bought the Great Replacement theory

As I’ve noted before, an interesting part of immigration is that ever since Obama was elected, the right has heralded immigration as the downfall of America, that a immigration armageddon was due any day now, but in all that time, I’ve seen very few signs of this predicted apocalypse

It's pretty hard to answer without data right? How do we know if it's gotten better or worse over the past year without it?

To attempt to have a discussion you have to at least offer a modicum of good faith. You're not doing that here. Yes, there are some who desire less legal immigration. But the large majority of complaining is about illegal immigration. I'm not defending their position but at least state correctly what they're arguing about/for.

Edit: Go back to 2005/2006 when Bush was trying to push for immigration reform and he got attacked from those on the right for doing so because they said it was amnesty (and the legislation never passed). So this didn't start with Obama.

I agree. It's hard to answer but I wouldn't get the answer from the far right media or any of the Republiclowns in Congress.
It's been documented in a court of law that they lie (FoxNews $787 million lawsuit).

If you're able to find the CORRECT answer and not a highly-biased answer, please let me know.

CATO is right wing trash

The Cato Institute is an American libertarian think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C. It was founded in 1977 by Ed Crane, Murray Rothbard, and Charles Koch,[6] chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Koch Industries.[nb 1] Cato was established to focus on public advocacy, media exposure and societal influence.[7]

Someone better tell New York and other sanctuary cities that all those people flooding the city are just imaginary...

How about the...

Steady subversion/ corrosion of American institutions American-style Western culture, the erasing of American history, the increasing ignorance of, and disrespect for, traditional American customs, manners and mores The lack of knowledge and understanding among the White American public re: the US Constitution/Bill of Rights and the "Declaration of Independence"?

The corruption of the DOJ, FBI, CJS, IRS ?

The loss of the rule of law (under the Biden Junta.

Rising Crime rates both violent and property

The tribalistic BLM riots of summer 2020?

The rise of Black Marxist racism in the form of anti-white/anti-American CRT tenets, pumped into K-12, ("Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity") school curricula.

Black racist revisionist historiography also pumped into the K-12 curriculum in the form of the "1619 Project".

The rise of racial Identity politics.

The bogus construct of White structural/systemic racism.

A President who brands half of the American population, "white supremacists" (of the KKK /neo-NAZI kind) who are also "domestic terrorists" that currently pose the most serious threat to national security (????).

These are some examples of the ongoing unravelling of the White Western cultural/civilisation core fabric of American society caused by multiracialism.

There has never been a successful multiracial nation in history (with the exception of those that were TEMPORARILY held together by the coercive of a central authoritarian government like the Soviet Union (which lasted 72 years); the various ethnic republics of the Yugoslavian Socialist Federation, which were held together by communist strong-man, President Marshal Tito. Tito died in 1980, by 1992 there was full-fledged genocide in process; Rwanda, where the Hutu and Tutsi tribes engaged in tribal warfare leaving 1,000,000 dead. Multiracialism also played an undeniably substantial role in the final collapse of the Western Roman Empire in 496 AD).

White replacement in America is no crack-pot conspiracy theory.I can prove for you that it is real using hard, empirical data, but I do not have space here. Finally, do you remember how the notion of the "Deep State" was also once derided as a "tin-foil" conservative, conspiracy theory? Well that proved to be dead wrong, didn't it Archives? (and) it's no laughing matter anymore, is it, dude?
