Americans Are Losing Faith in the Value of College. Whose Fault Is That?

I might be but since leftists have controlled education in America for decades, Im not sure how anyone with a functioning brain could even ask the asinine question that you did. Calling me stupid doesnt change that but you're just too obstinate and lazy to realize it.

If Democrats didn't involve themselves in education, only White People would be allowed to go to school!

When it comes to higher education worldwide, the United States is an outlier in more ways than one. In Canada and Japan, public-university tuition is now about $5,000 a year. In Italy, Spain and Israel, it’s about $2,000. In France, Denmark and Germany, it’s essentially zero.

A few decades ago, the same thing was true in the United States; government funding covered much of the cost of public college. Now students and their families bear much of the burden, and that fact has changed what used to be a pretty straightforward calculation about the economic value of college into a complex math problem.

Blame the Democrats, that ruined colleges and Universities, particularly ivy-league schools.

"A decade later, Americans’ feelings about higher education have turned sharply negative. The percentage of young adults who said that a college degree is very important fell to 41 percent from 74 percent. Only about a third of Americans now say they have a lot of confidence in higher education. Among young Americans in Generation Z, 45 percent say that a high school diploma is all you need today to “ensure financial security.” And in contrast to the college-focused parents of a decade ago, now almost half of American parents say they’d prefer that their children not enroll in a four-year college.

Propaganda is NOT 'higher education', though you call it that.

Colleges should teach STEM only. Leave out the sports and all the easy, verbal, mickey mouse majors. But that would mean no blacks and few women and we can't have that.

Colleges are not vocational schools. They shouldn't be treated as such.
Unfortunately, they have been turned into indoctrination centers for the Democrats.

For-profit colleges could not pass up the big bucks. Online schools started making a fortune without having the costs of brick-and-mortar schools. They were making terrific money. Universities saw how much profit was in education and they pushed it like a corporation. Push the cost up as high as the traffic will bear. Now Americans take out a college mortgage. It is wrong and hurts American competitiveness.

Commies. Yoar Welcome.

Illiberal pieces of shit and the government backing student loans and then college administrations letting in 2/3 more students that weren't college material to make shady-ass profit.

There, I explained it to ya. I can go further if you so choose to listen. I was college material. Many of the people that suddenly appeared on campus after I had been there for 3 years were not.

No not 2/3 more students, that was wrong, 300% more students when only 100% were actually college material. That's what happened.

I like the phrase "college mortgage". Very apropos. Yes it feels like most universities (even online...especially online) have taken the American view that EVERYTHING is better if it becomes a profit-center and they turn it into an industry bent on profit. I honestly don't know why we can't have something untouched in our society that remains somewhat purer. The ideal of the "ivory tower" is not always a bad thing. Universities should be more like abbeys where no one expects them to necessarily turn a major profit but people pursue higher knowledge without restraint.

But that isn't how we operate here in the US and you're right, it will, ultimately, cost us our competitive advantages.

there are more people who want a white collar job than there are white collar jobs......that is why blue collar skilled jobs like electricians, welders, nurses are sitting empty.......all the college graduates are barristas and landscapers while waiting for their four day, online IT job comes through.....

America is sadly giving up it's tech crown. We have some of the best places to earn a STEM degree but that isn't what Americans want to do. So we educate the rest of the world. For now. Don't know how long that is going to last, though.

its okay.....most of them stay here.....

How did Democrats ruin ivy league colleges?
