"Rich Men North Of Richmond"

"I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day
Overtime hours for bullshit pay
So I can sit out here and waste my life away
Drag back home and drown my troubles away

It's a damn shame what the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is

Livin' in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know, but I know that you do
'Cause your dollar ain't shit and it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men north of Richmond

I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat
And the obese milkin' welfare

Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds
Young men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground
'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them down

Lord, it's a damn shame what the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is

Livin' in the new world
With an old soul

I didn't really understand the over-the-top reaction to this. This isn't like the Aldean song (which I also have no problem with).

I also don't think it's aimed strictly at Democrat policies, as the left seems to think. He mentions taxes & welfare, but the biggest issue is the gap between rich & poor. Which I think many would attribute more to right-wing, trickle down policies.

He is not aiming this at one political party or another. Rather at a system that has long become corrupted. Few if any can find fault with his words if they are honest and non partisan.

So, what’s the current event with a political background?

Do not try to muddy the waters. If you have nothing of substance to offer simply go to another thread,....DIVIDER. You will be ignored from this point forward.

Simple question, what is the current event with a political background?

It's aimed at both parties, and politicians who sit in ivory towers so tall that that when they look down on the average guy and the problems he's got the size of elephants, all they see are tiny ants of no consequence. If you think he's singing about only the side of politics you disagree with or hate, you're part of the problem, not the solution.

Yes,.....high level politicians and the SO CALLED elites tend to live within insulated bubbles. Living in that kind of a bubble can many times turn an otherwise intelligent person into a form of imbecile due to their own blindness. One needs only look to some of the European monarchs and former Roman emperors for all the proof you will ever need of this. Absolute power corrupts absolutely...

Yeah the fudge rounds line is the only part that made me roll my eyes, like first he mentions height line anyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and grow X amount of inches lol.

I prefer Capital G by Nine Inch Nails myself.

I pushed a button and elected him to office and ah-
He pushed a button and he dropped the bomb
You push a button and can watch it on the television
Those motherfuckers didn't last too long huh huh

I'm sick of hearing bout the haves and the have nots
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we've been doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Trading in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry bout no future generations and ah-
I'm sure somebody gonna figure it out

Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You haven't had enough to know what it's like
You're only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I'm right, alright

Well I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There's a lot of me inside you
Maybe you're afraid to see

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Trading in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

I prefer a classic:

Sunshine go away today
I don't feel much like dancin'
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
He don't know what he's askin'
When he tells me I better get in line
I can't hear what he's sayin'
When I grow up, I'm gonna make it mine
These ain't dues I been payin'

Well how much does it cost?
I'll buy it
The time is all we've lost
I'll try it
And he can't even run his own life
I'll be damned if he'll run mine, sunshine

Sunshine, go away today
I don't feel much like dancin'
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
He don't know what he's askin'
Workin' starts to make me wonder where
Fruits of what I do are goin'
When he says in love and war all is fair
He's got cards he ain't showin'

How much does it cost?
I'll buy it
The time is all we've lost
I'll try it
And he can't even run his own life
I'll be damned if he'll run mine, sunshine

Sunshine, come on back another day
I promise you I'll be singin'
This old world, she's gonna turn around
Brand new bells will be ringin'

It's not something people ever want to talk about - but a part of the problem is capitalism.

I don't even like talking about it. I like capitalism, and I'm a capitalist at heart.

But it naturally creates inequity. The rich, inevitably, get richer.

Capitalism can be implemented in a more sophisticated and civilized way.
The Scandinavians do it all of the time.

Maybe they're just better than we.
I haven't seen a more credible answer.
