George Santos is far from the first member of Congress to be indicted while in office. Both chambers and both parties have endured their share of scandals.

Mr. Santos is different from other members of Congress who have demonstrated moral failures, ethical failures, failures of judgment and blatant corruption and lawbreaking in office. What he did was to deceive the very voters who brought him to office in the first place, undermining the most basic level of trust between an electorate and a representative.

Because he was elected shit-for-brains. In addition, the charges will need to be proven shit-for-brains. Until then, there is a presumption he is innocent, and he does not need to prove he is shit-for-brains.
 
Expelling someone before proof of any wrongdoing would set a very bad precedent but Santos will not be in office after his term expires

There is also no point in congress holding hearings, expelling him, then New York holding a special election to replace him only to have the next election directly afterwards

Santos will be gone in 2024

He is still there because he is a REPUBLICAN.

The GOP no longer cares about ethics.
