EXPERTS ARE PREDICTING AN ‘EXPLOSION’ OF INEXPENSIVE ELECTRIC CARS

Many areas simply don't have the infrastructure in place to handle thousands of EV cars all charging at the same time...yet.

And if we converted to all EV's then the power grid and generation would require many trillions of dollars in investments.

Why would they all be charging at the same time? I have a Tesla Model Y and I charge my EV about once every two weeks. Charges overnight in the garage.
I haven't been to a gas station in two years.

I'll tell you what...the legacy automakers are sure doing a shit job of making EV's....one wonders why it was assumed that they would do a good job.

Running your EV out of charge on the road is extremely expensive in time and money.

It isn't a thing. Range anxiety comes with buying an EV. Your screen ticks off the use telling you how much range is left. You are always aware of what's left. but I never ran out of gas in an ICE car either. You must have done it regularly.
You start the day with a full charge. Drive to work and back, maybe shop. When you go home you plug in. It takes a few seconds. A lot faster than filling a gas tank.

EXPERTS ARE PREDICTING AN ‘EV-PLOSION’ OF CHEAP, ELECTRIC CARS — HERE’S HOW LOW PRICES COULD GET

The EV market is booming, and there are a lot of exciting upcoming models. by Mila Dyson*/*May 18, 2023

In 2022, electric vehicle (EV) sales were on the rise but mostly remained popular for buyers with a large budget, with many consumers still finding them too expensive. Several of Tesla’s models were among the most popular EVs across the U.S., and Car and Driver reported it as the bestselling luxury auto brand.
Why 2023 is the year of the EV
Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), many EV buyers will now qualify for all or part of a $7,500 EV tax credit when they go for a new EV. And Tesla and other carmakers have lowered their prices.*
So, as the numbers of EV models available skyrocket and the price of EVs naturally goes down, when the tax credit is considered, many more EVs will soon enter the mainstream, in what Tech Crunch called the “EV-plosion.”
What’re some of the most exciting upcoming electric vehicles?
The EV market is booming, and there are a lot of exciting upcoming models. Many higher-priced EVs don’t qualify for the IRA tax credit — they need to have an MSRP of less than $55,000 unless they’re trucks, vans, or SUVs (which can be eligible at prices up to $80,000). But the growth of the lower-cost EV is electrifying.
One exciting new prospect is the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, which should be relatively affordable with a starting price close to $30,000. Once the $7,500 tax credit is factored in, it would come at a reasonable starting price of $22,500. This compact electric SUV will have an enormous range of 250 miles estimated between charges (or up to 300 miles with higher-priced options), so there is no need for any range anxiety.
The Fisker Ocean is a stylish SUV that its maker has released in Europe and expects to start delivering in the U.S. in June. The base model has an estimated range of 250 miles and a base purchase price of $37,499 — MAGA wets panties.

Looks like you got screwed by buying one early on. Joey wets panties.

And if everyone comes home at the same time and charges their cars overnight, it creates problems with current power grids. Your mileage might be much different than people who drive 200 miles/day.

Level 1 20-40 hours
level 2 8 to 12 hours
Superchargers 15 to 25 minutes.
And real charging is much faster because people do not run their cars to zero.

How far can you go in a winter storm with the heater and windshield wipers running?

An EV would be a good option for a second car to toodle around town with but not as your main vehicle

That is why Tesla has till recently gotten a pass for their lack of dependability....their owners almost always had other stuff to drive when the Tesla is down.

My middle daughter and husband just got a 2023 Chevy Bolt. They got enough incentives from both the federal and their state to bring the price (and monthly note) down to what they were paying for the GP vehicle she traded in.

yeah, that will happen.
EV doesn't work for me, but a hybrid would.

If I went with an EV, I would also have solar for charging. We don't have issues with the power grid in NY, as we have huge solar farms cropping up everywhere. I can see where congested cities would have an issue in the summer, though.

COMPANY MAKES MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH IN SOLVING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES WITH EVS:
‘WE’VE SPENT OVER A DECADE IN THE LABS’

by Jill Ettinger*/*May 20, 2023

If your electric vehicle (EV) could charge in less time than it takes to grab a cup of coffee, would you make the switch? One tech company thinks it can solve the charging challenge and reduce “range anxiety,” too.*
California-based Sila, a leading advanced battery materials company, announced that it has achieved a 20% increase in EV range per charge. It said it can also deliver faster charging capabilities through the development of nano-composite silicon-anode battery technology.
Dubbed Titan Silicon, Sila’s battery innovation features silicon anodes that can go from a 10% charge to an 80% charge in just 20 minutes. The company said it thinks it can reduce this time even further — getting it down to 10 minutes in future iterations.
“With the wide adoption of EVs, consumers are looking for best-in-class solutions that deliver best-in-class performance, and our solutions provide just that: longer range and faster charge,” Gene Berdichevsky, Sila’s co-founder and CEO, told Freethink.
Sila’s technology also claims to reduce battery weight by up to 15% and increase space by up to 20%, and it’s also compatible with existing battery form factors.
Silicon anodes have been touted as the next significant advancement in battery technology for years. A number of car companies, including Tesla and General Motors, have shown enthusiasm for the tech. But the first EV manufacturer to access the tech is expected to be Germany’s Mercedes-Benz. Its 2024 EQG will feature the Titan Silicon cells, as InsideEVs reported.

Read the link I posted asshole. Either way people that actually work ( not you welfare boy), need to get to work. So fuck off. Without them you would not be getting your welfare.

"EXPLOSION" is an accurate claim, because as the EVs are driven, battery voltage drops; when voltage drops, amperage goes up, which creates heat.

If it continues, in a very short time, an explosion is highly possible, even probable.
