Is trump going for a incompetence defense?

It's hard to believe that any competent atty would allow him to testify as he is incapable of telling the truth. He is also incapable of sticking to answering questions w/o bloviating off into some other tangent. He'd be held in contempt in the first five minutes.

Maybe the strategy is he testifies, then appeals on the basis of ineffective counsel?

He would be tempted to schmooze the jury with the irresistible charm he believes he can lay on anyone. Watch it backfire if he tries.

I doubt this will effect trump much in the primaries. he definitely has the party of trump(former republican party) nomination. It will probably only become a major factor in the general election.
This won't be a factor in the general either. No matter his crimes, Independents are NOT going to allow him to finish what he started on Jan. 6.

The voters in this nation realize that he cannot tell the truth. Despite any claim that he won't do away with abortion, nobody will trust him.

He doesn't even have a platform. He's already said the he's out for revenge if he gets elected.

Not a good reason to vote for POTUS

The more trump rape and treason are in the voters faces, the more independents will vote for Biden, and real Republicans will stay home. It will also energize Democrats to vote.

It is impossible to predict with any certainty an election a year and a half away, but this could be a landslide for Biden.

Republicans only hope is to make Biden look worse... Which is tough, because their cases keep getting laughed out of court.

That is the saddest part. They just want revenge on America. So much hatred for a society that has given them so much.

trump decided not to show at his trial, which seemed kind of stupid. Then he decided not to present a defense, so now it is ten witnesses against none. That might have made sense if it was a criminal trial, where he needs to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt guilty... This is a civil trial. They just need a preponderance of the evidence (51%). Ten witnesses against NOTHING is a preponderance. Realizing he made a huge mistake, he announces he is rushing back to the USA to testify... But also realizing his deposition was the strongest evidence against him, he knows testifying would be a bigger mistake.

It is impossible to predict what a jury will do, but trump has lost on the evidence.
I have no idea what going through Trump's head about this. The fact he defamed Carroll via social media immediately before the trial indicates massive arrogance and stupidity to me.

The only explanation I can think of is trump has surrounded himself with people who support him no matter how bad he is, so he has no understanding of normal consequences... Or maybe he is just extremely senile.

...or both.

trump has trouble sticking to the same story for more than 5 minutes. he seems to just say random things.
...and then denies he said the first thing. That does indicate senility or some other form of mental illness.

My favorite is his "Proud Boys; stand back and stand by" followed by his throwing them under the bus after 1/6 and denying he knows them. :rofl2:

Agree about Indies, even if there is no other trial before the election. Most know that the nation will not survive another 4 years of trump. Republicans don't need him, as they got their tax cuts and stacked Supreme Court. There isn't much else that they need. I'm not sure if Republicans will stay home, but I sure hope so. The Senate is at stake.

Arizona is going to be fascinating to watch, and Manchin is about to blow a gasket and go full Republican in an effort to keep his seat.

An open investigation against Clinton was enough to have a small number of Democrats stay home, and completely shift the election to trump. A full on criminal trial should be enough to keep some Republicans home(those that do not like trump), and shift the election in a huge way.

Clinton was the second most disliked candidate next to trump. It's hard to draw any concrete conclusions from '16, as the kids were butthurt over Sanders (who basked in the glory of same as he refused to back Clinton). They refused to vote. Add to that the fact that many believed all of trump's lies about increasing taxes on billionaires, and providing cheap health insurance.

The claim that 'jobs will come flooding back to America' was also a nice touch, albeit laughable.

Clinton, although the most qualified (aside from Biden, who stepped aside because it was Hillary's 'turn') candidate, was also a terrible candidate due to the fact that she was so disliked.

'16 was a perfect storm that will never happen again.

I don't know if Republicans will stay home, or just vote down ballot and not vote for trump? The opposite of what the nation did in '20. Voted for Biden, but refused to give Dems the Senate.

I still love the part where he confused Carroll with his then wife... Thereby blowing his whole claim that she was not his type.

I didn't even think of that implication! Hahahaha! Gods, he is 78 kinds of stupid. I hope he does testify; the prosecution will tie his lying tongue in knots. lol

Had Comey not quickly opened my an investigation right before the election, and then closed it right after the election, Clinton would have won in 2016, or so I believe. The election was so close, and Clinton lost a few points from the investigation.

trump will have much more than an investigation to deal with.
