apr 23 2023 The absence through illness of California Senator Dianne Feinstein has been causing headaches to the Democrats, with the party split on how to deal with the situation.

Feinstein, 89, has been out of action since early March as she recovers from the shingles at her San Francisco home following a spell at the hospital.

During this time, Feinstein has missed dozens of Senate votes. Crucially, Feinstein's absence has meant that the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which she is a member, has been unable to confirm some of President Joe Biden's judicial nominees, with numerous currently stuck in limbo as they wait for the Democrat's return.

Some Democratic colleagues have called for her to quit so she can be replaced, while others have expressed concern that it might look bad for the party if it appears she has been forced to retire. If Feinstein decided to resign, California Governor Gavin Newsom would appoint a replacement.

Christopher Devine, an associate professor of political science at the University of Dayton in Ohio, said that Feinstein's absence will "only become more trying" for Democrats as the upper chamber looks ahead to future key votes, such as whether or not to raise the debt ceiling.

Biden is fine. You are crazed to criticize his abilities when you expose yours when you do it. The Dems have been trying to get Feinstein to retire. She has had physical and mental problems from her age. Are you older than she? Fetterman has returned from getting help. We do not know if he is completely well. If he starts voting with Repubs we will know h has longer termed mental problems.

Then why did the democrats elect Fetterman since he has huge mental and physical problems. Democrats are stupid and Biden is proof. Why is it Democrats do not want Biden to run if he is such a good president? We conservatives know he is incompetent and has caused huge problems for this country

He was a better choice than a TV doctor who did not even live in the state.
Biden has done a good job. He just has not done the job you far-right nuts wanted.

Fetterman didn't have problems when he started his Senate run. He had the stroke many months into the campaign. And people in PA who have/had family members with health problems related to his honesty in dealing with his own. But even more, Oz shot himself in the foot many times during the campaign but this one stupid comment about abortion was fatal: "I want women, doctors, local political leaders letting the democracy that always allowed our nation to thrive to put the best ideas forward so that states can decide for themselves."

PA women didn't appreciate Oz saying that some schmo on the school board or city council could tell them what to do with their bodies.
