Abortion Backlash Freaking Out Republicans

That's only one, largely discredited view, TOP.

They could just as easily be described as unwanted clumps of cells, not unlike malignant tumors.

I feel obligated to balance one extreme view against the other,
feeling all along,
that mine is the less extreme.

Perspective is everything, but in the end,
it's the American Christian Taliban trying to stop women from having reproductive freedom,
not sophisticated America forcing right wing women to abort their ill-advised offspring.

As a hard left social democrat, I'm mostly about universal healthcare, union friendly labor laws, and sophisticated public education.
If I have to muddle in these social issues, however, there's none about which I feel more strongly.

Human fetuses and embryos are not children.
In school, we had them in jars, floating in formaldehyde.
As a teacher, I'm sure that you had them too.

but people don't adopt tumors when they can't get cancer, fuckwit.

if mary killed jesus, the virgin born saviour, minutes after birth because that's private medical information, what would jesus do?
:nolovejesus:

Perhaps you should re-read John 1:1. I don't think Mary could have "killed Jesus" and had any particular impact on Jesus. Jesus would have still come into the world.

But it is refreshing to attempt to legislate based on myths. I wonder how we should legislate reflective shields that might be used to kill a Gorgon.

that's clearly protected by the 2nd amendment.

Correct. That's probably why the Founding Fathers put it in the Constitution. They wanted to ensure we had protection against Gorgons. The only thing that can stop a Gorgon is a good guy with a reflective shield. I hope the reflective shield lobby continues to keep the pressure up to protect this vital resource.

Solid.

I hope I can find a way to avoid getting banished to that ignore list...;) I am a retired teacher by the way... the funniest thing is everyone here knows that...:)

The ignore list isn't based on disagreements but rather on the basis of failing to be artful in discourse.
I have nearly as many progressives on it as conservatives.
About sixty people in all at this point.

We're good as far as I can see, don't you think?
You, of course, could very well choose to ignore me. That's allowed as well.
PoliTalker did that my first week on the forum!
He still has a live mic with me, though, because his Pollyanna optimism makes me laugh and gives me material!

this is why you're losing.

I'm losing? I'm actually not a fan of abortion, so I don't know how I'd be losing.

You see for me the discussion is actually one of economics. The way I personally fight to eliminate abortions is to eliminate the need for abortions by voting FOR improved welfare, expanded healthcare coverage (single payer) and economic improvement in underserved communities.

Eliminating the economic horrors that can face someone unable to support a child would go MUCH further in eliminating abortions than just screaming at them and calling them 'murderers'.

But I also understand that some people love their money more than they do their own ethics and morality. That's where the problems begin. I'm not more in love with my money than my ethics.

We're good....I think I mentioned why we probably always will be... (not that it matters much, but I'm pretty sure Poli is a girl...she
does make everyone laugh...;)

Nobody actually believes a human life begins at conception.

Nobody on this board would risk injury to rush into a burning fertility clinic to save some petri dishes of blastocysts.

a human individual life definitely begins at conception.

you wanting to kill it is a different issue.

Given that any life begins at conception does not explain why terminating a human life is never acceptable. We allow the termination of human lives all the time, and always have. Lax gun laws (as pointed out), even permitting semi assault weapons to be purchased by teenagers, give preference to a competing value. So if you're going to make a convincing argument against abortion you will have to do better than "the preciousness of human life".

We don't permit intentional termination of life....We don't permit any termination of human life with a weapon. There are a number ofcircumstances when an abortion is medically necessary...but abortion is not birth control, and should not be treated as such...

Nonsense, Marty.

How about crushing the skull of an unborn child? Is that clear enough to you.

"Semi-assault weapon"...really, you mean semi-automatic weapon and I owned one at age 12 for hunting, a 410 gauge shotgun.

Do you know which end of the weapon that the round exits?

Poor Marty.

After the Republican Party’s disappointing performance in the 2022 midterms, fueled in large part by a backlash to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, the Republican National Committee recommitted itself to anti-abortion maximalism.

A resolution adopted at the R.N.C.’s winter meeting in January urges Republican lawmakers “to pass the strongest pro-life legislation possible.” Addressing their party’s poor showing in November, it said that Republicans hadn’t been aggressive enough in defending anti-abortion values, urging them to “go on offense in the 2024 election cycle.”

The 11-point loss of the Republican-aligned candidate in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election on Tuesday has influential conservatives rethinking this strategy. “Republicans had better get their abortion position straight, and more in line with where voters are, or they will face another disappointment in 2024,” said a Wall Street Journal editorial.

Ann Coulter tweeted, “The demand for anti-abortion legislation just cost Republicans another crucial race,” and added, “Please stop pushing strict limits on abortion, or there will be no Republicans left.” Jon Schweppe, policy director of the socially conservative American Principles Project, lamented, “We are getting killed by indie voters who think we support full bans with no exceptions.”

Seeming to care more about protecting guns than school children probably isn't a good look either, and it gives a lie to the "sanctity of life" claim.
Given what just happened in Tenn., it's obvious that many Red states are strategically gerrymandered and safe from any general election worries. Sure...Republicans might never hold the White House in the near future, but assholes like Meatball Ron are very safe.

So, Marty, you wrongly think that a semi-automatic is a semi-assault weapon and don't know which end of the weapon the round exits.

How can you be a whore, Marty, aren't you a male?

Do you understand now why I use the appellation, "Poor Marty," Marty?
