All these posts about changing demographics but almost never anything about this. As the argument goes American institutions such as the media, universities, government and business are so steeped in white supremacy and racism that simply putting POC in charge of them does nothing to change them. Thus the need to radically transform America and her institutions.

And if they are capable of acknowledging, at least to themselves, that they wouldn't want to walk a mile in Black Americans’ shoes, then why are they actively contributing to the hatred, discrimination, and violence Black Americans experience?

Let's not overthink this.

Whoever has been in a solid majority and faces the likelihood of losing that status is going to feel very uneasy about it.

We can insert all kinds of sociological factors,
and they can even have substantial validity to them,
but none of them will be more impactful than relatively comfortable people facing forced change.

We all shared this vision of all people accepting one another in harmony,
but that was too far fetched for any of us to truly believe it would happen,
and sure enough, it never did.

We're now coming to terms with knowing both sides,

the side with the advantage,
and the side with the disadvantage,

of why heterogeneous societies will always be uneasy for those within them.

Theoretically, multiculturalism could indeed have advantages.
In reality, we haven't discovered them yet.
It's not the scenario that we may have wanted, but it's the one that clearly exists.

Exactly. Just because a black person has the right to buy a house in some neighborhood, even if it's mostly white, doesn't take away my white person right to buy a house in some neighborhood, even if it's mostly non-white. But that's what Reichwingers fear. A right (like SSM) protected by law for one group somehow diminishes their own rights. It makes no sense.

Why would minorities becoming conservatives be a topic of discussion, other than wondering why -- if conservatism is so wonderful -- they aren't already?

The goalposts move for racism, 'vince.

I believe that equal standing under the law,
for all races and ethnicities,
is an absolute imperative.

I would never wish ill on a person solely for race or ethnicity,

I very much care who lives next door,
but race or ethnicity has no bearing on it at all.

Fifty years ago, people would have said that I'm not a racist.

Now they say that I'm racist all the time,
just because I'm not naively optimistic about multiculturalism.

At some point, one has to just stop caring about what other people think.

The advantage is that when you combine all types of peoples bloodlines on earth you create a place where all the talents and types of intelligence combine to create the best mankind has to offer


You go by ability and not idiot racist ideas


Once those divergent types begin having children together the racism melts away


Then you have one race of people who can look back and admire all their roots


Why would you hate part of your own history and linage just because some want to be dictator tries to divide and conquer your nation?
