ICC to Open War Crimes Cases Against Russians

The International Criminal Court (ICC) will open two cases against Russian officials over the invasion of Ukraine, The New York Times reported on Monday.

In its report, The New York Times said the first case involved Russia's alleged abduction of Ukrainian children, who were then sent for adoption or to re-education camps.

The second case alleges that Russian forces deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure such as power plants with missile attacks.

The court would also seek arrest warrants for several people, the Times said, citing anonymous current and former court officials, and gave no details of who would be charged and when.

Prosecutor Khan said earlier this month after a visit to Ukraine that the alleged abductions of children "are being investigated by my office as a priority."

"Children cannot be treated as the spoils of war," he said in a statement on March 7.

Khan also confirmed that the ICC was investigating attacks on "critical civilian infrastructure" in Ukraine and that he had visited the sites of several such strikes.

Russia-Ukraine live: Moscow does not recognise ICC, says Kremlin

Moscow does not recognise the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, the Kremlin says, after reports suggested the court was seeking arrest warrants for Russians connected to the war.

Here's the irony- Ukraine is not signatory to the ICC either.

"Some outside diplomats and experts said it was possible that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia could be charged, as the court does not recognize immunity for a head of state in cases involving war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide."

It's probably purely symbolic, but it's a start.

Actions Ike this can save lives, whether there is a trial or not. Knowing that international war crimes tribunals are watching them under the bright lights of international scrutiny, Russian field commanders may feel pressure to maintain good military discipline and legitimate rules of warfare among their troops.

Who, I wonder, is going to investigate Ukrainian war crimes and bring the Zelenskies before the ICC ?

Suck that Putin cock.

Ukraine is not attacking Russia, hasn't occupied one square meter of sovereign Russian territory, and has not killed Russian civilians or kidnapped Russian children in any way that would constitute war crimes

Hope you are right about that.

Horseshit. The Ukrainian nazis spent 8 years attacking pro-Russians in the Donbas.

Zelensky's Azov nazis are up to their tiny heads in war crimes, according to reports.

It seems you've become drunk on Putin semen.

Ukraine has every right under international law to use force to put down insurrections and rebellions on their own sovereign territory.

Our cops should have open fired on the J6 insurrectionists

I don't envision anything meaningful coming of this, but opening some cases against Russia is the least that should be done.

Creepo- all publicity is good publicity, particularly public denouncement of your crass stupidity.
As is obvious from your latest troll attack- you have nothing to offer. Begone

Impressive to watch the Hague court pull out all the stops to arrest Russian war crimes suspects.
Palestine, on the other hand, has been waiting *eight years* for the court to complete its investigations, let alone begin issuing arrest warrants for Israeli war crimes suspects.
Last summer the Jerusalem Post reported that Karim Khan, the Brit who took over in 2021 as the ICC's chief prosecutor, had 'not issued a single public statement or taken a single public action regarding Israel-Palestine' since his appointment a year earlier.
