Wajahat Ali claims Nikki Haley uses ‘brown skin to launder’ white supremacy

Nikki Haley’s campaign opened with an appeal to race. Some Indian Americans say it won’t work.

Haley, born Nimrata Randhawa to Sikh Punjabi parents, is trying to make inroads with Indian Americans, experts say it’s not working.

She doesn’t represent the community, said Varun Nikore, executive director of the AAPI Victory Alliance, a nonprofit group representing Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. In fact, Nikore said, “there’s a multitude of issues where she specifically and the Republican Party are diametrically opposed to where AAPIs are.”

Some South Asians say Haley’s on-and-off acknowledgment of her ethnic background is a routine they’re familiar with. Nikore, who has followed Haley’s career since the beginning, says her use of her racial identity often goes hand-in-hand with perpetuating the model minority myth, taking anti-immigration stances and opposing comprehensive education about race in the U.S.

“I think people can see through her much better now than ever before,” Nikore said. “So she can try to talk about her immigrant background, I think it’s going to fall flat.”

Kind of like Brandon telling black people they ain't black if they aren't sure who they are supporting? Like that you mean?

The AAPI Victory Alliance is a progressive political group. Is it a surprise that they don't support someone who is more conservative? Or is the assumption for minorities that race/ethnicity trumps political ideology and people vote strictly on that?

And yes, authenticity is always going to be an issue for candidates. You don't reach this level (in the political game) without being ambitious. There are some who are simply nakedly ambitious and others who hide their ambition behind a veneer of authenticity. Those who do the latter well tend to rise higher in the ranks.

There's nothing wrong in principle with immigrants ditching their ethnic heritage in an attempt to fit in with white conservative Christian culture.

But I personally think it is a mark of strength and character to not be embarrassed by one's heritage

Here's "White Conservative Christian" culture at work248170057_10223290874891997_4697471031024235716_n.jpgtrumpprayedover1_hdv.jpg

Like the muzzies right? They love their heritage so much they're willing to kill you if you dont.

I was responding to Florida who said this: Did you miss that because we're not on the same page here...;)

I didn't miss it because you said this...

and if you thought her to be a joke you just ignore her.

I asked why you think people ignore those they think a joke. People make fun of those they think are a joke. They don't ignore them. Do you ignore Biden?

Not even a tiny bit. She even mocks his speech impediment, for one thing, and suggests tongue-twisters he should try. Then wonders why no one believes her fantasy of being a retired special ed teacher, which she is not.

Methinks Haley's authentic Indian heritage can and should be more accepted then that of say, the Taxachusetts senator Liz (Pocahontas) Warren's claim as having some 1.0003 % or some such ridiculous low percentage of Indian blood to help her gain power and respect in the minority communities, with the fact that Nicki is perhaps 100% more pro/real American then that of the leftist nitwit Pocahontas herself.

You can't be a representative for the ethnic immigrant class if you are ashamed of it. She ditched her family's Sikh religion and refuses to use her given first name Nimrata in concerted attempts to conform to white Anglo-Saxon expectations.

Racists like that, but people with dignity and self-respect do not.

Oh dip shit, east Asian Indian isn't the same as native American

Sikhism is a monotheistic religion, so it really shouldn't be that intolerably exotic and frightening to uptight Southern church ladies.

And the God of Sikhism has a certain universal appeal, it is conceived as an unfathomable oneness that encompasses all of creation.

They don't even understand their own religion. It's too much to ask them to understand Haley's former faith. Besides those Sikh men are scary with those turbans. lol

I am far from a historian but I do know that people who we call white today in America were not considered white when they immigrated here over a century ago. And many of these people we call white today changed their name when they got here. Based on the discussion here isn't that a sign of weak character and lack of pride in your background?

I'll still don't see how this is relevant to Haley as she has gone by her middle name since birth. But funny how white people never have their authenticity challenged. We can support whatever politics we want and even change our name and we don't get accused of selling out our race and not being authentic. But for a minority, they aren't given that option. I still don't understand how that isn't white supremacy.

It's not white supremacy it's black culture. Whats the response to black conservatives?
