No, idiots shouldn't be senior police officers. You do something so stupid as leave your weapon in a public bathroom, you get a smackdown, not a promotion. That's the reality here. This guy had a track record of screwing up. He shouldn't have been made a Lieutenant. But in government, as I well know, often your race and gender come before competence in promotions. That's wrong on so many levels.

If that's the case, why did the Capitol police and the DC metro police both totally cover up their reports and findings? It took a outside of government watchdog to sue both under the FOIA and a court fight to get them to release redacted versions of their reports and findings. When you read them, it doesn't bode well for the competence of the Capitol Police department.

Kids use that public restroom . When a parent leaves a loaded weapon where a kid has access to it it is against the law. This guy is more dangerous than Barney Fife.
